Re: A TNT2 32MB is apparently better than a 16MB Voodoo 3 3000?

in Milliways
You're saying the v5 has inferior IQ to the v3? Ahaha... no I mentioned it - in a sort of off-topic ramble. From the Voodoo cards I have and use the V3 has the best IQ in my opinion - subjective of course. I love the V5 for all the things it does and it looks great too, but honestly the V3 turned …

Re: Saitek Cyborg 3D joystick / Win95

The dilemma I face is that USB controller are no go on W95 of any flavor. You can enable the mass-storage/thumb drive function but that's about it. I was combing through a readme in an R Loew W95 USB driver kit looking for help (his memory limit patch is great BTW) and he states that exhaustive …

Re: Saitek Cyborg 3D joystick / Win95

Was searching for W95 drivers for the Saitek Aviator (if there is one) This "v 1.0" CD only contains XP. Pic below. In the meantime I'm trying to get a Saitek AV8R USB functioning in W95 (USB1 is fully funtional in this rig). Legacy drivers for the similar "Aviator" model install... AV8R and …

Re: A TNT2 32MB is apparently better than a 16MB Voodoo 3 3000?

It's always worth mentioning the 2D/DOS quality of voodoo3 is almost unsurpassed. So true. I was an original V1, v2 and V5 buyer and it was only within the last 8-10 years I picked up a V3 out of curiosity. Side by side it has the finest IQ of the lot hands down and miles ahead of period D3D. It's …

Re: Saitek Cyborg 3D joystick / Win95

[Necro for the win!] I read that there were issues with this stick/W95 and a patch was realsed. No luck finding it, but I assumed the v275 driver was the upgraded any way. Saitek/MadCatz doesn't keep an old driver repository. Just possibly that was this different patch for the gameport Cyborg 3D on …

Could anyone who has the Nvidia cockpit transparency issue upload the debug logs for me? To keep the log size to a minimum, please keep the test as short as possible. Just enter a quick mission, have the cockpit show up, and immediately exit the mission and the game. how do you find/make the debug …

Re: MiG Alley

in Windows
Thanks for the feedback! At least now I know the performance fixes are ok on Nvidia also. Too bad about the cockpit issue. Since I can't reproduce it, I probably won't be able to fix it, but we'll see... G-Sync is Nvidia's variable refresh rate technology, which requires a compatible monitor also. …

Re: MiG Alley

in Windows
Progress! I re-started with a clean copy of my v123 test install and with W8/Admin compatility settings the game boot and flies. Same tearing on cockpit, but overall performance seems noticably better even at 1600 than before. I currently have nVidia scaling at GPU override/fullscreen (for other …

Re: MiG Alley

First pass with the new ddraw and I'm dumped to a 640 desktop shortly after clicking the game shortcut adter a number of tries. W10/GTX 1060/MIG ver 123 I'll try compatibility modes per above suggestions.

Re: Rendition Verite Thread

Well, there always is the regular DOS version that is also in true 3D but instead uses the main CPU for all rendering. Just keep in mind that using a full 40 car field plus all of the textures turned on, SVGA, etc. takes a bit more than the 486 DX2 66MHz they list in the manual. Fortunately it also …

Re: Rendition Verite Thread

are there any specific games that just look or play better on rendition. Or exclusive rendition titles that are worth playing., The one I know is IndyCar Racing 2 (aka CART Racing) - the Rendition version. I built a Verite retro box a few years ago just to finally see how it looked. Well, it looks …

Re: MiG Alley

Latest experimental release of DDrawCompat should now fix the performance issues affecting this game (and some other titles that rely heavily on either indexed primitives or system memory vertex sources, such as Midtown Madness 2). It shouldn't have a black box covering most of the screen either. …

Re: MiG Alley

Have been fooling around with this again hoping that some combination of new GPU drivers, dxwnd updates, Windows updates would improve this state of affairs, but no luck for me so far. Anyone had any success getting this to run on Win 10 in 2019 in anything other than software rendering? I’ve …

Re: VGA card of my first ever PC.

A 1mb Number Nine of some sort. Came bundled with a nice IBM Aptiva I bought 3rd hand about 1995. I remember it was upgradable to 2mb (something that I never succeeded in doing) and had cool "9" and "Number Nine" logos printed on the board. It may have been named something like "Vision" or "Reality" …
