Re: Game box cover art vs in-game graphics

in Milliways
I remember the embossed box art that seemed to pop out at you, the feeling of those pressed boxes I think where you can tell what game it is by feel. I miss those boxes but I kind of gave them up when I moved to digital distribution. I remember GOG have a bookshelf-type library that was cool it …

Unreal Classic Pack masterservers

in Windows
I am sure you are aware of Epic shutting down the master servers for classic games, notable of which is the Unreal games (1,2, T99,t2003,t2004,2014/4) with the exception of UT3 which is coming back as a F2P on steam/gog/egs. I am using the OpenSpy master server for 2004 with a legitimate key I got …

Re: When PC became soulless for you?

in Milliways
I became utterly depressed with how I no longer find PC experimentation fun, no dumpster diving anymore because no pcs out laying by the road. Ever since Dosbox/GNU/Linux things just work and that irritates me. I am no longer needed, I am too old since the internet made me obsolete

Windows games on reactos.

I'm impressed with the compatibility but if they developed it like dosbox and strictly for games then maybe it would have been successful for games that would be self contained packages

Unreal Tournament 2004 CD Key Fix

in Windows
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00 (edit by Dominus: key removed) I saved this key from gog.com when I bought it but I got it on steam too, so this is a valid key for the game, it doesn't do key validation check when connecting to servers or LAN gaming so go ahead, I stick to UT99 though

Re: Digital game collection addiction

I download the original CD from somewhere or rarely get it from a friend. In this way I get clean stock game. And now I may also install it on 9X if I want. Technically, that's still piracy. Maybe someday GOG will finally include original ISOs as bonus goodies. The ISO is there in the install …

That's coming from a company which is actively trying to fool customers that they don't own anything on account and just "rent" it. The saving grace here is that their DRM is not intrusive and could be cracked on client level, should Steam go under. But Valve is just too big to fail now. Yes, this …

Steam apparently has a contingency plan for keeping access to the games you've bought. Should Valve go under. That's coming from a company which is actively trying to fool customers that they don't own anything on account and just "rent" it. The saving grace here is that their DRM is not intrusive …

My take on GOG games: PROs : DRM free, which is especially nice for games which originally shipped with rootkit crap like StarForce Standalone offline installers. These make it very easy to transfer games to an offline WinXP retro rig DOS GOG games can be installed on a modern system (via included …
