Well the difference between 3dfx mini driver and d3d is that with the first one on half-life my fps are pinned on 99fps and this never changes during the game. On D3d I have framedrops down to 45fps (still really playable) but if it is possible, I'd prefer the mini driver. But what Garrett W says, …

To be very short, Don't. A 486 dx2 66mhz is completely underpowered towards a voodoo 3. Even the voodoo 2 (non sli) would never be put to the max with that processor. And these cards are PCI and affordable.

Can you please provide us with some more details? Maybe post some screenshots of the display properties in win98. Pictures of the card itself and what hardware you are using.

Which driver do you use? Because with some drivers in the 3dfx panel the splash screen seems to be disabled.
