Now that I think about it that case looks suspiciously like some cyrix computers I saw in Best Buy once. Yes that's right - I remember when the cyrix name was going on computers and you could buy then in stores

I'm thinking of phasing out my K6-2 systems - I have three. With voodoo cards it makes a good box for half-life and unreal (but not much else). With a P3 you can do the same thing but also have a system that's powerful enough for other things (shrug)

I remember I used to have a subscription to Compute's Gazette when I had a Commodore 64. A good magazine. I threw all those out when I got rid of the Commodore - something I sometimes regret

Thanks for the input - my experience has been that running Quake in software rendering in any higher resolutions (even 640x 480) requires a pretty hefty processor

Well I got my board - it seems to be in working order :happyhappy: Taking the orb cooler on and off turned out not to be a big deal at all. However, it is LOUD. I am going to be getting another one of those Nexus coolers. That celeron 533 it came with is giving far better performance than I expected …

Wow - I see you even have the display set to the correct frequency 😁 I'm running a 500 p3 in mine so it's hard to set the display properly

Even if the board has some problem the RAM alone is worth $13. I am not sure about that golden orb cooler. I'm going to look at that REAL careful - I have never had one but I hear they are a real pain to install

I have seen lots of very similar cases around - different heights or fronts, but all with that same black control panel and all looking like they were made by the same manufacturuer. Does anyone know who made that case?

I got a new board off ebay. Asus CUBX (my second) with a celeron 566 (that will be upgraded), one of those golden orb coolers (never had one) and 128 MB of RAM for......................$13 😁

I think we decided the broken corner was really just being covered by the cloth. The DALLAS thing is a really big deal - deal breaker that is. I'm sure it could be de-soldered - but not sure I would want to try. Something is telling me there are better 486 boards. Or for that matter pentium boards …

I have even thought about trying to do a site like redhill myself - but I really do not have enough hardware - not even close. And I got rid of a lot of earlier stuff (something I am regretting today). I wish I had kept that old 486 DX4 I had - with its Conner disk and VLB video card.
