Original Lode Runner

I have an ancient copy of the original LODE RUNNER. Unfortunately, it is on DISK and requires the original disk to be in DRIVE A. Well, most new computers don't even have a DISK DRIVE anymore, so I want to play from hard drive. How can I make this work? As far as I can see there are only two files …

Re: System Shock

in DOS
Here is a follow-up. First, I definitetly have 1_97.exe and renamed it DOS4GW.EXE. Second, if I choose "ignore" com2 error the game does run, but it is not playable because, I cannot bring up the SAVE GAME or OPTIONS menu. If I hit escape it quits the game. Also, I can no longer get out of FULL …

Re: System Shock

in DOS
I did everything on the intructions but the game crashes immediately saying "cannot open com2 requested by the program" or something like that. What is that about? I am using a DOS4GW.EXE but don't know it is really the same as the 1_97.exe which I could not find in the links.

Re: Win98SE corrupts CMOS settings

in Windows
Anyone got an idea how to stop this behaviour? Well people will debate this, but I still believe that corpeal punishment works and is a good deterent to bad behavior. Seriously, have you tried contacting the manufacturer? I know that they don't support Win98 anymore, but if it is BIOS then it is …

Re: Zombie Wars

in Windows
That is probably correct. Unfortunately all the dependency analysis program's out there are for 32 bit programs. I cannot find one that works with 16 bit programs, or else we could find out what DLLs Zombie Wars is using!

Re: Countdown and Dosbox problems

Yes, I was just about to say that. The problem is the "Real Sound" does work in DOSBOX 0.65 but occasionally causes a crash. You need to select any sound other than Real Sound for that segment only. I did not notice any other crashes in the game. I am thankful that REAL SOUND is not compatible with …

Vista Compatibility Solutions

in Windows
I would like to start this thread for Windows games that do not work on Vista. Simply list the name of the game and a link to the thread which has the solution, if any. This should not necessarily be a thread to solve the problem, but to provide a list of programs with Vista compatibility problems …

Re: Zero Critical Problem

in Windows
For those interested. The problem is compatibility with some Sound Accelerators. Turn off sound acceleration and the game should work but you will get an erroneous CD error. Ignore the CD error (it will play off CD even though it says it can't find CD) and play as usual.

Re: EMS Memory in VDMS

Umm, you mean in actual Windows? I know VDMS is not a true emulator but I thought it did something to get EMS. Windows does not use EMS (only XMS) but I thought VDMS did emulate EMS. If not, then how do I get EMS? Thanks for the help.

EMS Memory in VDMS

Having not had success with DOSBOX for Terminator Rampage I tried to use VDMS but it keeps saying "needs 2 mb ems" despite the fact that I have setup in the VDMS shortcut config for 4 MB. I have also tried 8 MB of EMS but it keeps saying I need 2 MB. Why is it not recognizes the EMS?

Re: Terminator Rampage Prob

Okay, here is my update. I found a Pentium patch at patches scrolls which seemed to resolve the CD problem, but now I have a new one. From DOSBOX I get a completely black screen which does nothing. If I use VDMSound them I get the error "needs 2mb EMS" even though I have set the VDMSound config to 4 …

Terminator Rampage Prob

I am trying to run Terminator Rampage from HD. I have installed the directory as CD-ROM as follows: mount d d:\term mount e d:\term\ -t cdrom However, when I load the game it says, "game will only run from CD-ROM" or something like that. How can I get this to run off HD?

Re: Gravis Ultrasound trouble.

Well, I got the files finally, and I installed them, but I am having the opposite problem as the guy who was working with Hocus. Under the Ravenloft games I am getting music but no sound effects. I am directing DOSBOX to the correct directory and it is loading Gravis because the game tells me …

Re: Gravis Ultrasound trouble.

Well, I know this isn't what you asked, but I can get the sound and music to work great without installing Gravis in DOSBOX. I don't know how Hocus configures the sound exactly, but I run the game through DOSBOX without doing anything special and I get the full sound and music and both are great. …

Re: Zombie Wars

in Windows
Does anyone know of a dependency analysis program that will work with a 16-bit program like Zombie Wars? At least that way I can find out what DLLs it is missing.
