Re: 3dfx Voodoo Brands

I've had a look today at the system requirements for many games from about 1996-1999 (I have my Pentium 4 for 1999 and up.) and it looks to me like a Voodoo 1 won't hold me back. Most often it seems like the 32 MB RAM and/or my K6-2/266 is the limiting factor. In early games -1997, and 1996 games ( …

Re: 3dfx Voodoo Brands

Voodoo2 is a nice match for K6-2. Any Vooodoo2 should work fine, try to get a 12 mb card (8 mb cards are more rare, anyway, so there's a good chance you'll find that). Voodoo1 might be too slow, unless you want to play only early 3d games (Quake, Tomb Raider, etc). But if you go for V1 it would be …

Re: Riva TNT (Diamond V550) and Quake1

Now, is Riva TNT considered a better card than Voodoo cards? I have a 16MB version, is it good enough to play Unreal, Quake II, and III? Riva TNT is the direct competitor to the Voodoo2. Each card has pros and cons, I'll write pros for each card Riva TNT -newer, has some features that Voodoo2 is …

Re: What were the historical prices on high-end GPUs?

I remember V2 price - 300 $ at launch. But 300 $ was a lot of money back then, it isn't only inflation, for me it's what I could buy with those mopney (well, not me, I was a teenager back then). Then there's was 5950 Ultra and Radeon 9800XT, they were both expensive: 500-600$. 8800 Ultra was one of …

Re: Voodoo 2 with intel atom 230?

Even with a fan mounted to blow air on the card it wasn't 100% stable, it became stable only after I downclocked it from 90 MHz to 85 MHz. That is a clear indication that your card dying/malfunctioning and overall power of the system has nothing to do with it. That's possible, but how do you …

Re: Voodoo 2 with intel atom 230?

You cant damage these cards with paring them with a cpu that is too fast but rather the performance caps out to where it is not worth running them with other hardware that is too fast to be worth it then the issue of 9x support ect on modern hardware. That's not true, there were quite a few …
