Re: Warcraft2 mapping number keys to units/groups

in DOS
not being able to number groups was my biggest hate of the Warcraft series, that and the 8 unit limit I'm pretty sure it's 9. Yeah, you hear that, chinny22? The unit limit is 9, not 8. Quit yer complaining ;). WHAT! NINE! All these years! You know how many battles I lost where that 1 extra unit …

Re: PC-DOS 7 Memory Tricks

in DOS
MS-DOS was just more common back then This, Our 486 came with PC Dos, Yet I remembered incorrectly that it was MS Dos 6.1 I still have PC Dos on the original HDD which I've installed everything as if it was new from the factory. But for any other system, including same PC just larger HDD I Install …

Re: Warcraft2 mapping number keys to units/groups

in DOS
No, this came up before. CTRL+# keys in Warcraft II I was excited at first not being able to number groups was my biggest hate of the Warcraft series, that and the 8 unit limit (4 in WC1) and would of gone mad if it was available all along.

Re: Sound Cards after DOS

Yeh that was what I was trying to say, maybe didn't word it clearly, Basically Unknown device= Install drivers and everything just works Nothing in Device manager = swear, format, move stuff, try again. Here is the link, I've used it on a card with the Fire ware breakout I/O box, internal 5.25 I/O …

Re: 486DX2/VLB build

it's sad you couldn't get the faster CPU's working, but VLB was tricky to get working best of times, and THINK I remember DX4 and later moreso. For me DX2 66 is the ultimate CPU to pair with VLB, Its also the "true" 486 being the minimum requirements system for years. DX4 and later suit PCI 486's, …

Re: Show me your HP!

HP Vectra XU6/150 Pentium Pro. Pics were taken the day I picked it up in 2015 (it was being tossed out), still haven't cleaned it up properly and taken a nice pic. Bought and installed a second PPro 150 and stock heatsink, and picked up a similar era HP keyboard. Plan to try and max out the RAM and …

Re: My first PC ('98)

Should be nice to relive those days, be interesting if you can withstand upgrading it for long though ;) What's the difference ATI Expert@Work vs Expert@Play? For comparison in late 98 I got Gateway P2 400, BX Motherboard, onboard EnsonicPCI 64 64MB Ram 10GB HDD 32x CD-ROM And the big upgrade at …

Re: Sound Cards after DOS

Newest PC I've ever installed Win98 on is a socket 478 system, usually something like a 865PE chipset. I've had mixed results, mostly it just works like you would expect, bunch of unknown devices showing in device manager until I use the standard CD that is on vogons drivers. Every once in a while …

Re: 386 SX40 build

Try the Ps2 to serial adapter in a newer computer, good chance the mouse isn't serial compatible and passive adaptors don't work like PS2 to USB adaptors. I liked the 2 black 5 1/4 drives in the beige case, suited it well. Sound cards are one of the most enjoyable parts to get, maybe moreso for the …
