Re: Which OS on a faster 486 system.

in Milliways
2 of my favourite things 486's and the original C&C/RA  Originally I only ever played on a 486 in DOS and still prefer this. Plus the installer is awesome. Bigger RA maps struggled a bit but playable BUT... For the most complete C&C experience you really need to patch the game and these are …

Re: Anyone jaded by modern graphics?

in Milliways
I've actually thought graphics were getting a bit boring for years. It was when the landscape in NFS4 looked the same as Tomb raider that came out about same time. 2 different games, engine, company, everything. but that's what you get when something becomes a standard. pre Direct X developers had …

Re: is Windows 98 command prompt sufficient for Dos Gaming

in Windows
Not sure if a 486 is upto playing games from within windows, But if your using Dos 7 as a OS in its own right you'll also save diskspace as you dont have to worry about all the utils, etc that a games PC has no use for. I just do a sys a: c:, copy accross any drivers, himem/emm few useful commands …

Something like this? Heck, we are talking P3 here! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dwU1tQD-Was I just found uxwbill's channel a few weeks ago and really got into it. I do sigh when surfing around seeing all the ignorant comments but I've accepted most people think they are experts just cause they …

Re: My second rig, a Wings no-name

I was building a similar PC as my end of the line Win 3.x machine (P3 slot 1, Tnt2 Ultra) but caved in and installed 98 and a better graphics card. Really love the slot1/BX generation and that would have been the case I was after, nice and simple it was around the same time cases started putting " …

Re: Another 486 being built

Must admit until I got this PC I thought the DX4-100 was as good as it got, and that's the CPU I was looking for, It was pure luck I came across this when I did, and it was only about £6 Don't really want a 586 as they don't do anything sentimentally for me (Of course I wouldn't was no if one found …

Re: Help getting a sound card to work in DOS

in DOS
Are you sure what resources the card is set at? and what they are supposed to be? From memory mine was wrong even though I just ran the liveware 3 setup and had to modify CTSYN.INI to the correct settings. I think I got dos sound working in Win9x, then checked what the legacy settings were in device …

Re: Another 486 being built

Which USB floppy drive emulator are you using? I just got whichever was the cheapest at the time. Once you open them up they all seem to come from the same manufacture "Gotek" or at the very least EXACT same manufacturing process right down to the red LED needing to be bent round. I did chose one …

Re: Help getting a sound card to work in DOS

Getting a SBLive working in dos rarely works without a bit of fine tuning. You can get the drivers complete with a bit of a guide from the vogons driver site here. http://www.vogonsdrivers.com/getfile.php?fileid=52 A lot of people don't like it as it emulates a SB16 and takes up a memory, but I …
