Re: Making backups of SafeDisc protected CD's

The CD's I'm attempting to backup aren't that badly scratched, though my Starsiege set is a near total loss as is my Tribes 1 CD... Shouldn't of been lazy to put away my CD's properly back when I was a stupid kid. I'll try this out though, thank you. It'll be great to finally have this stuff on …

Making backups of SafeDisc protected CD's

Since some of my old games have REALLY nasty scratches to the point where it can't even read most of the game, or even the audio tracks properly... I've been running utilities to attempt to rip them in much working order instead of going out and buying a new CD to replace it, especially since buying …

Re: GTA 1 in windowsed mode?

The program is in Japanese, it has to be started as admin to work properly, you may need to move it out of Steam (as in, get rid of it's "DRM" in the process) for it to properly hook it because it has to beable to start and hook the process, not steam. It does not work all the time so maybe it wont …

Re: GTA 1 in windowsed mode?

I suppose getting the original MS-DOS version would work since it runs in DosBOX. Have you tried D3DWindower by any chance? (despite it's name it can hook DirectDraw and GDI somewhat, it works wonders with games like Alpha Centauri when configured properly)

Re: Best bugs in video games ever.

Quake - hold down fire while you exit a map with any nailgun or a thunderbolt. crazy things can happen. Ahahahaha... This is similar to a bug in my boyfriends mod for Unreal where if you die while firing, you will continue to fire your held weapon until either you let go of the fire button or ran …

Re: Best bugs in video games ever.

Yeah, I think I ran across that many years ago with Dues Ex leilei... It's also a pain in the ass to make conversations properly because apparently the game is sensitive to the bitrate of the MP3 itself. And more bugs: Starsiege: Occasionally for no obvious reason, the terrain will flash black and …

Best bugs in video games ever.

I can name quite a few, but I'm curious what others have experienced that would make them face palm or headdesk. Unreal: In version 200 retail, loading a save game while you have armour makes all the armour you have useless, picking up armour does not solve the problem. The engine itself tends to …

Re: Looking for "gusgm16b.zip"...

Yeah this is what I was searching for, thanks for the quick reply everyone! ... it also has badly mistuned instruments, I take it because the person who made this just ran it through a automated tool without much thought, it's also worth mentioning that the ORIGINAL patch set had bugs in the loop …

Looking for "gusgm16b.zip"...

Website that hosted this is defunct, had a robots.txt and googling it turns up nothing. Has anyone got this and willing to put it on dropbox or something? I'm really curious about this soundfont...

Re: Question about Wave files

CNC also used ADPCM for... well everything. All the voice acting, unit sounds and music were monoual IMA ADPCM stored in a unique chunked method Westwood Studios made for whatever reason. Also my thought's on Quantization noise. I've actually had limited success using a noise gate to fix such …

Re: Question about Wave files

Speaking of wave files, I wish there was a simple tool to insert sampler chunk data into any RIFF WAV file... I'd write one myself but finding solid info on all the different things I can write is proving to be a hassle and I'm lazy... There are various games out there that make use of sampler chunk …

Re: Do I have the slowest harddrive in existance?

After all this discussion, I still don't get why the 7 min boot up time should be related to the HDD speed. It could as well be some driver time out. I know it's the HDD because as it's booting up the light strobes constantly and I hear alot of thrashing going on, hell just traversing the …

Re: Anyone jaded by modern graphics?

I find it funny how modern games have textures that look like badly molded up clay where as if you look at the Savage 4 tech demos and the 2nd UT99 disc... those textures are amazingly crisp and detailed. The bump mapping and parallax occlusion mapping only future to ruin the whole image of games …

Re: Windows OPL3 Synthesizer

Any status on fixing the bugs in usermode driver so that stopping playback in Winamp actually tells it to shut down? It is rather annoying having to shut down whatever program accessed the driver before I stop hearing stuck notes.

Re: Anyone jaded by modern graphics?

I don't like "HD" mods for older games either. The Quake steam community hub makes me weep. I might sound hypocritical when I coded this enhanced software renderer , but it's the screenshots that turn it into some awful bumpmapped crap with 'hd' photoshop filtering that make your eyes bleed . Can I …

Re: Do I have the slowest harddrive in existance?

I've speed tested my drive before and in such tests I get around 100 MB/sec at most, I've tested for bad blocks using both chkdsk and several other utilities and there are no bad blocks on this drive to my knowledge so far... This drive IS running in "legacy PATA" mode because Windoze would BSOD …
