I tested this card today on Windows XP with driver version 307.83 on a Socket 775 without any problems. I also tested it with Windows ME again but on this same Socket 775 motherboard and there was no graphical corruption. I'm not sure what the problem is but it may be some interaction with these …

I'm pretty sure that I was stable so long as I had the drivers installed even on a pre-Coppermine Celeron. I've put these away in a bin already so I can't confirm.

How does an ISA controller work without a BIOS? Is it something that gets loaded into memory at runtime or is it meant as a physical interface for additional channels not available on the motherboard?

I think it's reasonable if you want the box for display or are willing to pay a little extra to know that it hasn't be floating in a box of parts where it may have been damaged. IDE controllers are valuable upgrades for specific use cases which is why I shared it. But I also asked about ATA33 …

I've never seen a controller enforce 80 pin cables a requirement. It should either fallback to ATA33 or provide an option to select a slower speed.

Different threads for different topics. One is repair, one is about speed sensitivity, and the other is compatibility with CompactFlash cards. It helps when filtering if someone is using with specific keywords and filtering by searching only by thread titles.

I ran into this while browsing. This buy has a box full of them. (Edit by Dominus: ebay link removed) Is there any reason to choose an ATA33 controller over an ATA133? The only thing I can think of is that this one mentions support for OS/2 Warp and SCO Unix.

I wonder if this particular fault was due to a whiskers. A gentle scrub would be enough to knock them loose.

Well the K7N2 is actually behaving even weirder. What is the part number on those CPUs? The added power draw on the 3200+ may be the tipping point that is causing the capacitors to fail in some way.
