Re: Post pics of your CRT monitors

Here's a recent acquisition, a 2001 Mitsubishi Diamond Pro 2060u. It was a Craigslist freebie and I'm glad it was as the picture shifts side to side ever so slightly. Brightness and contrast are fantastic, and there's no visible burn in, it's just that jiggling picture that's annoying.

Re: Is the gravis gamepad good?

I bought a GamePad Pro new way back in the day and mine also came with the screw in joystick. I never warmed much to the pad as I am a keyboard gamer at heart, but it was reliable and comfortable... aside from the joystick which seemed far too tall at the time (I was 12 or something like that.) Alas …

Re: What game are you playing now?

On my "modern" system I'm playing Serious Sam 3 BFE. It's quite fun, but so far all the levels look the same. I miss the variety of levels from the first two encounters. On my 440bx system I'm playing SimTower. I really should not have started playing again, much time was wasted playing it back in …

Star Wars is the reason I bought my laserdisc player in the first place, I just feel embarassed watching the special editions. Probably the biggest issue I have with LD is the requirement to flip the disc. Even if you're lucky enough to have a player that flips the disc there's still the issue of …

Re: Anyone have bad luck with Linux?

Every so often I try out the latest and greatest Linux builds to see if there's been any improvement in useabilty. Linux is definitely much better than it used to be, but it's nowhere near ready for primetime, and may never be. I admire the concept of free open-source software, but I'm just too …

It's an Epox EP-USB66, I bought it for the ATA-66 functionality so that I can use some bigger drives on my old Gateway 2000 P5-75. What's a bit odd about the card is that it's got a USB hub built in, a hub not a controller, so an external USB cable is needed. I also got a Pantone Spyder color …

Re: What would happen if a CoD kiddie tried Quake 3?

in Milliways
When I was in high school Quake 3 was the new thing and we played a bunch of it during lunch. It was and still is a great game IMO. Regarding the COD series, I can't put my finger on why I don't like it. I played a bit of COD3 and a tiny amount of Modern Warfare 1 and neither clicked with me. I'd …

Re: What is your age?

Just turned 29. I grew up with both a 5150 and a PCjr. My first real experience with a GUI came when my parents bought a 120mhz IBM Aptiva running Win95. I both loved and hated that computer. I played a ton of Doom, Sim City 2000, and Dark Forces on it. Lately I've gotten back into retro computers. …
