I agree V3 is a great first 3dfx video card. Easy to use (single card), good speed and reliable. Goods idea to have a fan nearby as they run warm. I'd recommend a PCI version if you can get one as it is more flexible.

Upgrade complete. Migrated to new Debian 9 server and enabled HTTPs. I planned to upgrade Mediawiki but didn't get a chance. On my list to do later.

Back in the day my Pentium 133 had a TNT2 M64 PCI! That opened a whole new world of games for me. So a Voodoo 1/2 in a Pentium 60 seems completely acceptable to me.

Based on my testing a Voodoo 4 has significant performance increase over a Voodoo 3 3000 in Quake 3. http://www.vogonswiki.com/index.php/3dfx_Benchmarks I would agree V4 32bit is similar to V3 16bit in performance.

Do you mean something like this? Many of them are designed for specific machines/motherboards, so getting one that fits can be difficult.

Yes the Voodoo 3 doesn’t support 32 bit colour and is limited to smaller textures.

Sorry I have no idea but it doesn't sound great. I'm sure there are some more knowledgeable people here that can suggest some other things and/or repairs. Its pretty old that the card works fine otherwise....

Sounds like one of the VSA chips might be dead. Can you disable SLI and see if the performance drops?

I played HL1 on a Pentium 133 overclocked to 166 with TNT2 M64 PCI (yes the video card was very overkill for the computer). In small areas 1024x768 ran okay, but as soon as any real action happened even 640x480 was very slow. It was hard to finish the game on the Pentium 1. I later upgraded to a …
