Re: Show us your Windows 3.x Desktops!

Will this be true for Windows 9X? Making Windows 9x run is really not any priority for a loooooong time AFAIK. And not running it on a boot image is nearly impossible, I guess. With Dosbox CVS you *CAN* install Win9x on an image but it is very unstable and the devices are not working properly as …

Re: Show us your Windows 3.x Desktops!

Maybe you should write a WIKI about how to install v3.11 in DOSBox - there are already Wikis about "boot" and (even bootable) "imgmount" so all that's needed from you is everything after having a bootable c:. well before there were Wikis there were guides and it seems there is already a guides …

Re: Any new DosBox release before Christmas / 2007?

You'll get more users of DOSBox if an up-to-date version is available via YUM or apt-get/synaptic on a frequent basis. I'm not sure whether one of Dosbox' goal is to get as much users as possible. Most people should be ok with the official releases. Those who want to have newer versions can easily …

Re: DosBox and dual-core PC's

ok thnx for explanation, as I said only solution seams to be overclocking hopefully it'll work not necessarily, it might be that you "overclocked" Dosboox too much to have it playable. Try to keep an eye on the CPU usage of the CPU Dosbox is running on to make sure that you don't get into the read …

Re: Legally getting older games.

Billington ruled that for games for machines which are no longer available, the copy-protection controls may be bypassed for "archival purposes." He also added that games with copy-protection that require "dongles" that were damaged and could not be replaced were also allowed to circumvent the copy …

Re: VDMSound on Windows Vista?

why not try it? But supposedly it can't work since the legacy support for 16bit programs has been gutted out. I may be wrong and remember stuff wrong. Edit: VDMS itself could work since it is a 32bit program but the ntvdm part has been gutted out or something like that I meant.

Re: Which can i Install?

you are seeking guidance, hence go to the guides section. There look at this guide: http://www.vogons.org/viewtopic.php?t=7260 With this you can create bootimages. Along with the install disks from freedos and Dos you can install those on those bootimages. But beware, last time I tried the Dos 6.22 …

Re: DosBox 0.63 to 0.65 any difference?

Back in the mid 80's, on 5 1/4" floppy disk the game, The Amazing Spiderman was released. I can play this on Windows XP with sound as well on Dosbox. Just thought i'd mention that since that game is very old, and can play on XP. No one ever said that NO games run without sound on XP. It's just most …

Re: DosBox-Starter - A german Frontend

tried to test it, but it needs an installer (which I hate), the installer needs admin rights because it tries to put some dlls into the Windows System folder and tries to assign its database extension. Of course it failed miserabley on starting the app (because I didn't gave the installer admin …

Re: I think VDMSound messed up my DVD-Player!

probably. It is just not very likely that VDMS is causing this because what it does is registering a dll. You are the first to report something like this and this could lead us to think that it is caused by something else than VDMS. ANYTHING that you installed since the VDMS installation (or even …

Re: Show us your Windows 3.x Desktops!

ok, here is mine. It's WfW 3.11 with Norton Desktop for Windows 3.0 shell replacement, some system icons were replaced and the maxmeter is running on top. This system was restored from a ten year old backup and apart from some hard drive device drivers that had to be remarked out it ran almost right …

Re: A faster disk controller?

fallout and ultima VII are two games with annoying loading times, system shock is another - there are probably others out there. The loading times are more a problem of CPU power and with a special driver (I think it's called UMBPCI or something like that) you can squeeze smartdrv in for games like …

Re: Duke Nukem 3d issue

What does that link have do to with this? that you are better off with that instead of wasting your time with trying to get VDMS to work with Duke. With searching the VDMS forum on Duke 3D you could have spared you this thread. Note, after 6:30, on 12/7/2006 (-5 hrs) i will check again at 4 pm …

Re: Full screen black

you probably have to use a scaler and/or set a higher default resolution for Dosbox. Many LCDs can't handle the default Dos resolution at fullscreen and either display black or a warning or both 😀

Re: S3 Win 3.1 drivers

well, Freecell works for me with the 0.65 release and of course with CVS, so I assume Win32s works somehow. But yes the installer crashes on the Freecell part on DOSBox 0.65, but CVS works fine. Btw, the guide on installing and running Windows 3x is at http://www.vogons.org/viewtopic.php?t=9405 and …
