Now I'm properly reading the site, the troubleshooting section does say they only work on the right type of card. Must be due to some difference between the Gold's 4MB onboard setup vs. the Value's 512KB. Creative's modules do work on either, I believe(?).

I haven't had any trouble with the Adlib ports with the Classic. I think it's pretty much the same thing as the ACE. It does actually have a physical joystick port that you can enable or disable, instead of the ACE's 'virtual' one. 🤣

That's odd; 30-35 fps is a weak show in Doom. No experience with that board, though.

Interested in the production version, especially if the price goes down a little bit. The Yammy and Roland DB's do sound better to me in the context of these old games, but they're not easy to find or cheap anymore.

Yep, they came with their own adapter and there's not much info. Epox used the following pinout with one Slot 1 board: Pin 1 = Data, Pin 2 = CLK, Pin 3 = GND, Pin 4 = NC, Pin 5 = Vcc. It'd be best to make absolutely certain ground and Vcc are the right way around.

The missing pin is there to key the battery connector. On my board the external battery connects +/Missing pin/NC/-

ISSI IS61C1024 seems to be the most readily available 128k*8 chip, mostly 15ns binning (the suffix for the DIP type you want is -N, IS61C1024-15N). Winbond W24257AK is a decent 32k*8, 10ns available.

Pentium III (Tualatin), and second place goes to i486DX2. Perfect for Win9x and DOS respectively, and I wasn't able to have them when they were new.
