Re: Quake in DOS 640x480 FPS

It is indeed very satisfying to have it running so smoothly and in high res, it's charming. I ended up using the P3-1.4S + MSI 694T + Voodoo3 3000 8 MB + SB16: Fastvid 800x600 = 74,3 FPS The P4 let me down: P4 3GHz + ASUS P4P800-E + NVIDIA 6600 256 MB + SB Live SB0100 Fastvid 800x600 = 58.5 FPS Most …

Re: Quake in DOS 640x480 FPS

I'm sorry for posting in the wrong forum. Anyway, for those who care and helped, I finally played all Quake with fastvid without any problems, flawlessly. It looks great at 800x600. Fastvid really makes a difference for high resolution playing in pure DOS. I'll start evangelizing about its benefits.

Quake in DOS 640x480 FPS

I want to play the original Quake in 640x480 in pure DOS (6.22) I tried ver. 1.01, 1.06 and 1.08 and I can't get 60 FPS or more with 640x480 resolution. I tried using a P3 1.4 GHz, and even a P4 3 GHz, but I don't get more than 36 FPS. Did you ever get more than this FPS in pure DOS at 640x480? What …

Re: MT-32 (old) rev0 and MT-32 (old) rev1 differences

in MT-32 General
Maybe the Wikipedia page will be helpful: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Roland_MT-32 MT-32 with revision 0 PCB, used in units up to serial number 851399. The PGA LA32 chip is later replaced with a 100-pin QFP type. I already mentioned this. As far as I know they differ in the LA32 chip packaging, …

Re: MT-32 (old) rev0 and MT-32 (old) rev1 differences

in MT-32 General
Thank you for your video and dedication Phil. I knew about your video and saw it a couple of times, and even now again some bits, but there's no reference to the MT-32 old rev1. I'm trying to find information about the MT-32 old rev1 (that is not the same as the MT-32-new that you reviewed).

Route MIDI-IN to SB16 FM Synth

Hello, I want to play a midi keyboard and have the Sound Blaster 16 play the sound. I'm using Win98SE and a standard DB15 to Midi In/Out cable. So far I've been able to do it using MIDI-OX 16 (newer versions crash). Are there any other ways to accomplish this using different software for Windows or …

Re: EMS and usbmass.exe problem

in DOS
DEVICE=C:\DOS\EMM386.EXE X=? Yes, I guess that could work, but I don't know precisely what part of memory I should specify next to X= After many shots in the dark, I came across with a solution. I don't have an idea why it works but it does. I'd like you to help me figure out why. I can do all the …

EMS and usbmass.exe problem

in DOS
I need to load EMS (EMM386.exe) and USBMASS (proprietary usb 2.0 driver) on this harddrive-less Pentium 1 computer. With ems, while usbmass.exe loads, when I check my usb stick dir, instead of the list of files, all I see is "IO.SYS" and nothing else. So I guess this has to do with emm386 and how it …
