Re: DirectX and OpenGL problems with my Matrox G200?

in Marvin \ Video
That's a very good question. Your right, broad early support. Ok, I'll try someday. In my rotation of use is my X8 XP, I think I used 5.82 for XP and leave it disabled in XP with a full card as primary. As the boot gpu, linux used it and passed the slotted gpu. Never tried reversing it... I need …

Re: What do you drive?

Ten years ago I was all about SBCs lol. But my old v8 s10 holds little interest for me now and just sits in the shed. :( Ha! Those are fun!! I traded my 83 S15 4x4 350/350 body lifted Holley projected sanderson headers dual cats, for a concrete driveway. About 1995 after 5+ years of emission passed …

Re: What do you drive?

I've been familiar with conversions for decades. Lots of ways to do it. Industrial diesel gensets with AC drive in heavy equipment started showing up a decade ago. Smaller sub-frame modular drivetrains are starting to come to market. It all just keeps getting better. Common make transplants (like …

Re: 2008-era Win XP build

I’d love to put a Quadro FX 5800 into a similar build, technically it meets the 2008 requirement (Nov 08) , it’s got 4gb vram which is ridiculous for that era,... Speaking of unusable memory, anyone actually get a 4GB vram Nvidia anything to work on XP32 ? As a builder of high end machines at the …

Re: 2008-era Win XP build

Hey buddy... When I read the OP's post I tried to understand what their objective is, and my interpretation is that PAE isn't something they're looking for. Maybe you feel I misinterpreted the OP...? Yes. The OP includes 8GB on the spec sheet, so yes, it will be a nice rig. No reason to to reduce …

Re: 2008-era Win XP build

Windows XP 32-bit won't benefit at all from more than 4GB memory. It looks to me like your motherboard uses DDR2 memory and I recall the largest common stick of DDR2 is 2GB. You might as well just use two sticks of 2GB in dual channel. Why does someone always need to point out this erroneous fact. …

Re: paste in socket

Tap a small 3-7mm vacuum hose into a strong shop vac, and feed it a solvent of choice around the hose while touching it all... Much much better than pressure. No offense, but... if you don't have equipment... as if that wasn't enough It's basically a catastrophe waiting to happen. If if if. Bring …

Re: 4k XP video

Well it worked in the end. The amd needs hdmi 2 and it works great. It just can't handle the monitor changing the setting while active, or it drops the sound. The quadro only works on hdmi 1.4. Neither give >1080 options. good enough.

4k XP video

Well today I've had a rude reckoning with this subject... I've mentioned that under debian I've had no issue after swapping an 15 year old (before "smart") Samsung 40" TV with a dumb 4k 43" modern thing. I don't need the 4k and send 1080 to it, but in setting it up I did test 4k on a amd 7750HD and …

Re: Anyone got 4k working on a radeon 9800 pro?

DisplayPort and HBR, which allows a single 4K/30fps signal or MST, ? DP1.2 is HDR2 and either are still MST capable... they are not competing things. As for input to an hdmi monitor it's about the hdmi spec; >1.4 and 2.+, I'm not up on the details.. Anyway, feed it 1080, let the monitor scale …

Re: Anyone got 4k working on a radeon 9800 pro?

in Marvin \ Video
IIRC you need HDMI 2.0 or DP 1.1 ...possible the HD7000... Yes, no chance without correct protocol support. I recently swapped a dumb 1080 with a dumb 4k tv in a video wall and did limited testing, set it to 1080. Hot plugged into a DP port on a HD7750 on Debian it mirrored a 1200p without config, …

Re: Dual gpu pci cards

What motherboard with support for IOMMU groups also has a PCI slot? Also, I've only head of this feature being used with PCI Express. Can PCI slots even be passed through to a virtual machine? Sure PCI is supported, likely most/any from around intel series 3 with vt-d. I've used Q35, 5520, Q67, 602 …

Re: Dual gpu pci cards

Can I ask a question on a tangent? Anybody ever explore how these oddball cards enumerate in later machines for use in virtual machines? IE, separate iommu groups, reset capability, idle power manage, and the like... I still own a few of the examples that work natively like they should so I'm not so …
