SB16 causes a 30% perfomance decrease in Doom.

in Marvin \ Sound
So, installing an SB16- late model, 2950- in order to use it alongside another audio card because I want that sweet stereo sound. It uh, makes Doom slowdown. Not absurdly bad, but dangit I just bought a new VLB card /specifically/ to speed Doom up and this nerfs it, slowing it to as much as /5300. …

Re: Aztech Sound Galaxy Nova 16 Extra- good card?

in Marvin \ Sound
I cannot for the life of me get the Aztech and the SB16 to play together. SB music plays to /both/ despite them being on different ports and DMA addresses?!? Also can sadly confirm no SB-Pro emulation or compatiblity. Damnit I'd just use the SB16 but the hanging Midi bug! aaaaa E: How would I easily …

NSSI reports that the BLASTER Type is SB Pro, "Some SB Pro or compatible". Specific type: Sound Blaster 2. DSP 2.01 This card lied to me I thought it was 16 bit ;-; I find this odd though, what does that SB Pro TSR do then? What's an easy way to physically test for stereo sound?

SRQ , I presume the model number of your sound card I38-MMSN811? There was also another derivative with model number I38-MMSN815. Aztech cards with the AZT-1605 chipset are only Sound Blaster 2.0 (mono) compatible (in terms of the DSP), but all of them has an OPL3 FM synthesis chip (so you do get …

Aztech Sound Galaxy Nova 16 Extra- good card?

in Marvin \ Sound
Holy lord that cards name is a mouthful. Anyway, I come here to ask if there's any known issues with this card. My only properly dated alternative is an SB16 2950 which has CQM and the hanging note bug, so it'd have to be pretty bad for me to pick that over it! It does seem pretty good though. Doom …

Re: OS/2 2.X won't boot on 486.

Disabling caches actually made it boot, whyyyyyy. That doesn't even make sense, The Pentium 2 had L2 enabled! E: Entering the bios on this board is Ctrl-Alt-S /after/ DOS or another OS has loaded. I can't find that info anywhere online and it took some work so lemme explain this in terms as …

Re: Vortex2, Santa Cruz or SB Live!

in Marvin \ Sound
You could try both, and then just see what one you use most. I suggest doing it like this: Install both, when you use an EAX game switch to the Live, and keep it that way until you switch to an A3D game. After a week or two, keep whichever you one you've had the most time with. No reason you can't …

Re: Is Vista now Retro

I doubt it'll ever have much of a following, due to the fact that XP basically overlaps it for use until 7 came out. Like, most people when given the choice would take XP over it until 2009. Especially for retro usage, unless you want to use a DX10 video card and for some reason don't want to use 7- …
