My server, Opteron 1218 on a Supermicro motherboard runs 24/7. Before that upgrade it was a P3 1Ghz Compaq server, before that I ran a Dual PPro overdrive 333 for a decade or more.

CL cards were just made in the millions so they are still many around. I wish I still had my computer shopper mags from that time to see what all the OEMs were using back then. The good 2/4MB VLB cards came out when everyone was switching to PCI 486/Pentiums so there were not that many made.

Decent VLB cards are getting hard to find. Most of what you see are CL chips or early S3.

Matrox is better off using somebody elses chips and doing their custom niche designs and software. The last decent gaming card they made was the G400 Mac. I have a couple of the G500 series because they made them in PCI and 1x PCIE (oddball stuff) with newer drivers for Win7.

Actually my old large gaming cases came from Craigslist. They are so large and heavy that shipping costs more then the case (used ones anyway). If you just wanted generic mid towers then get one on Ebay from Newegg (they list a ton of them).

ISA cards will be slower then PCI cards just because of the slow BUS speeds. Are you sure the Et4000 isn't an early AX model? Quite a few of the ISA Tsengs are the 4000AX variety. The W32 models are faster in Windows, and faster yet if they were the 2MB ones. Anything pre Matrox Millenium doesn't …

I wouldn't pay $5 for an asteroids cart even if it has some historical value (and not much since thousands could be dug up). Maybe if they had some game that never made it to market because of the crash.

Old stereo receivers (before they all went surround sound) are good for retro gaming systems with decent speakers. I still keep an old Technics system from the early 1990's in the basement for music.
