Re: SoftMPU 1.7 - Software Intelligent MPU-401 Emulator

in SoftMPU
Another idea for an alternative output method... serial port output for use with modules that support it (SC-7, SC-55MKII, SC-55ST, MU5/10). Pointless or useful for laptops/machines with no MPU installed? Wouldn't hurt to use a serial port as an alternative output method since laptops/desktops …

We already discussed here that JEMM support would require to fork SoftMPU to a JEMM loadable module or to have a just a stub for port trapping as JEMM dll that talks with the SoftMPU TSR. This is more complicated as you may think since the port trap callback is in protected mode. So it is not the …

Update on the old Ultimate DOS machine: EMM386 and QEMM works with SoftMPU, and JEMM386 almost had the job done, but I had an error pop up: √ MPU-401 detected at port 330 √ Sound Blaster detected at port 220 IRQ 9 i SYSEX delays enabled ! Error: port trap failed. Please submit a bug report EMM386 …

Well, I couldn't find an API documentation for JEMM. I had a brief look at JEMMs source, but couldn't find support for the required functions. But source is usually not self-explanatory. So without documentation chances are very low to add support. You may try QEMM that uses only 768 bytes low …

Hey I was wondering if there's going to be a version that would support JEMM386 (FreeDOS version of MS-DOS's EMM386, but uses less memory than EMM386). Great job overall on the SoftMPU software. I have no problems with it at all; works flawlessly on my computer. EMM386 memory usage: 4KB conventional …

Does this game have a specific MT-32 mode? What happens if you select General MIDI instead? There is no General MIDI mode in this game unfortunately. It only has just Roland MT-32, Adlib, Sound Blaster, PC Speaker, No sound, and Gravis UltraSound for the sound card (either MIDI, Sound FX, or both). …

Is there going to be a release of the program that would work with NHL Hockey 95? I'll take a look. This game might just be sending invalid data to the MT-32, or it might be speed-related. Does NHL Hockey 95 work OK if you disable your L1 & L2 cache? NHL Hockey 95 still won't work with the Roland …

Sounds like he's using SoftMPU to prevent buffer overflows with that game, rather than because it needs intelligent mode. I tested every game with and without the SoftMPU program, and the games work with the SoftMPU and without it, the games would cause an uproar (exc. checksum errors all the way), …
