Not always, but either way it does sound like it's dead. You could go through the process of replacing the BIOS, but it may or may not be worth it.

Is the CPU ok? I have a socket 370 that didn't respond at all when powered on & it turned out to be a dead CPU.

If your ALI board has 512 KB of L2 cache, I believe the cacheable memory range is 512 MB. For a fair comparison, you really should use the same hardware for both the slot 1 and super7 motherboards, otherwise the results will be open to scrutiny. I suspect the results of the K6-III-550 will …

I'm not entirely sure if the use of either memory type would make much difference in S3D mode. I assume the bottleneck being the 375 chip itself.

You want to see bad performance, try a Celeron 300A, 48mb RAM & a Rage Pro Turbo 4mb :lol: That's what my old Acer Aspire's specs were. 64mb is indeed too tight for quake3. quake3's default setting requires 64mb of FREE ram, you can limit its memory usage but not without performance degradation. and the tx chipset can only cache for 64mb of ram, so its not really a good option. and if you are satisfied with your quake3 performance, …

In terms of analogue connections, IMO nothing beats hooking up an old 2-4ch amp with a set of good 3-way floor speakers. Max Bass, Max Treble, switch to AUX and away you go 😁

I got playable framefrates (25-ish) in Q3A on a p200mmx with a voodoo1 & 64mb ram. 640x480 Lightmap off medium textures The only time it would start to struggle was on the larger maps. Enlight is a pretty good brand. So 230W is at least an accurate claim. I personally would go with a high quality, period correct 300w unit for that setup.
