From my recollection, at least with the CMI-8738, FM playback through the SPDIF output is an analog-to-digital signal. So, the recorded audio waveform will never look as good as pure digital like the YMF7x4 cards.

There are 2 MIDI files that only sound correct on the AWE-32 at the bottom of this page Techno Toys Samples. They don't sound correct even with Foobar2000, XMPlay, SC-VA due to advanced usage of AWE-32 specific NRPNs.

I always thought the Audigy AudioHQ wouldn't work from on SBLive, since the SBLive has half the microcode registers. Does the Audigy reverb algorithm work on SBLive? EDIT: Nevermind, I saw the other post where you found AudioHQ from another SBLive CD that works with the Audigy drivers.

If you enable the LPT port in the BIOS you should be able to enable LPT sharing in the sb emulation dialog in device manager. For my AudioPCI, I have the LPT port on 378 and normal mode.
