Indeed. MS-DOS6.22 source code with a permissive non-commercial license would be amazing for dosbox/freedos/etc. Nice to see Microsoft become a bit more "hip" though.

Win95C has comctl32.dll version 4.70, so I would guess it's useful for more than just 1st edition. I haven't run any updates against my install through I don't know if it's needed to this manual file switching.

IOSUPD.EXE fixed that GPF problem for me.. Check if you actually have the new ios.VXD version installed. Note that there appears to be a different iosupd.exe that does something with rmm.pdr, which I know nothing about. Use the one here: http://sobac.com/ZIPfiles/Operating%20Systems/Windows/win9x/

Follow the instructions in the "Minimal Windows 95 install" thread, as it is the latest version of instructions and I think the only one that addresses using version C. That dialog box about the floppy disk can be safely ignored.

If there was a debug build that spit out reports to console as it initialised subsystems it could help track it down... I've attached a crash log for now but it doesn't seem enlightening.
