CompactFlash is definitely more reliable as they use a native IDE interface (IDE to CompactFlash adapters are passthrough connectors, no components).

It is extremely simple to write a vertex shader that will ensure the output window is scaled by integer multiples only.

There is absolutely no reason for a HDD to short pin 28 to GND (it shouldn't be driven by the drive at all, it's an input signal) and it's definitely not ATA compliant.

Poor quality CF adapter probably connects pin 28 to ground.

Maybe one of the pinball games? They're mostly the ones I remember being actually 70fps rather than a reduced multiple.

Interesting that the acceptable list contains a mix of plain 5V flash and 3.3V/FWH chips, guess that's somewhere in the remaining 8 bytes of data for each entry.

A compact flash adapter is even less likely to work, most of the time they're wired to be the only drive on the cable / don't have the required signal connected (PDIAG) for proper master/slave operation.

Until somebody completely rewrites the fault handling and FPU implementations, it is not safe to run windows 95+ under any version of DOSBox.

The version of Doom is important. Early versions used hardware mixing for sound effects, later versions used software mixing and only use 2 voices (leaving the rest for music).
