Re: What is this mystery VGA ISA card?

That's what it is--WD90C00-JK on 16-bit ISA bus. OEM by Colographic Communications (silk screened on PCB) https://www.vogons.org/viewtopic.php?f=63&t=57593 It has a DE-15 and DB-9 for VGA monitors. I'm guessing it could be aka "WD Paradise" or similar to that. Some hints on DIP settings might be on …

Re: IBM MDA in colour

That makes sense. It said "color" in the article and datasheet but I see that's just marketing notes. At a glance I thought it as clocking an NTSC color burst or something.

Re: IBM MDA in colour

Interesting! And probably not faked. MDA and CGA cards use the same CRT controller chip, Moto 6845: http://www.classiccmp.org/dunfield/r/6845.pdf which supports color. Re: When will Microsoft finally die?

Could you tell me who exactly, that is a general computer user, is going to ever switch to a non-GUI interface? Sure you can do a ton of things without a GUI, but 99+% of users have no need and no desire to even try to learn how do do stuff from the command line. Computing tasks, not desktop …

Re: Help me fix a RIVA128 card.

Surface mount capacitor for filtering. White line means it has a +/- polarity. The card still works but it is not noise filtered to spec. It's large for a SMD so it's easier to desolder and swap. I'm not sure about the code on it.

But they are catalogued. I'm not a historian or a researcher, but that does have a use to obtain more resources from the museum. Computer history itself is not a very well covered area. Most of the literature is embellished fairy tales about Steve Jobs and not actual history. Wikipedia is spoiling …

Re: Fully operational, As-is sales

you might have to invest some time and money for a repair. What’s wrong with that? It is part of the classic computer hobby. Strongly agree. The stuff that's old enough for DIPs and through holes--collectors who also operate should have a solder station they know how to use. A group can agree to …

Re: Internet speed blues

In the US, all of the companies which do bundling make most of their money from internet service and ppv (porn/some sports). That's why they try to sound like good guys saying "we don't throttle xyz." The net service already makes way more money than their tv. Comcast's 1TB limit means with 100Mbps …
