There is no gain at all using DDR3 vs DDR2 on a Core 2 Duo platform. But you do need fast enough memory. For 333 mhz FSB you need 667 mhz memory 400 FSB needs 800 mhz memory and so on. An E8400 3 GHz Core 2 Duo (FSB 333) with the memory @ 667 MHZ with 3 3 3 8 timings will be just as fast as using …
