AGP implementation in those early boards (ALI, SIS, Intel LX), well... sucks. High demand for electricity is not covered by circuits on the board. However, S3 Trio 3D works stable 😀 Maybe ATI Rage Pro is also good choice if you want to be period correct.

I would create ISO of game, and use Daemon Tools to mount it. Much quieter. Personally I'm using Daemon Tools 3.47 under Windows 98 (Pentium !!! 450)
