Re: A Tale of PCI Woe

Speaking about USB card, you may try those with Opti chipset - these are more period correct (only USB 1.1), so there a chance they will work. After all it is very early PCI implementation. Definitely ISA sound card is the best solution here. I think compatibility is more important than performance …

Re: A Tale of PCI Woe

For some reason most stable network card for me (for Socket 3 UMC based Biostar 8433UUC-A) was 10 Mbit PCI - Realtek 8029AS . I've tried 100Mbit ones: Realtek 8139 as well as 3com 3c905, but this 8029 was most reliable (especially in Windows). If I remember correctly it also allowed me to run ftp …

Re: Connecting DOS Machine to LAN

Second mTCP FTP.... just nab that and an NE2000 packet driver and you're set. Grab the NE2000 one here; works well http://www.georgpotthast.de/sioux/packet.htm The card isn't plug and play and has no jumpers. I need to know the card's IRQ, interrupts, and I/O base. I can't just use that without the …

Re: Connecting DOS Machine to LAN

I tried that like you said. It didn't detect the card in PNP. [...] If it's not detecting in PNP, what do I try? Looks like this card isn't PNP. Somebody struggled with similar problem here in vogons: thread . If this card is identical like the one in the mentioned thread - I can't see any jumpers …

Re: Connecting DOS Machine to LAN

Edited main post. Still doesn't work. Try to find packet driver for you card. If you'll not be able to find driver for this particulal D-Link Card, try NE2000 one. http://www.crynwr.com/drivers/ http://www.georgpotthast.de/sioux/packet.htm If your card is PNP, you can check it's presence in …

Re: DOS games with weird resolutions?

Try Megablast: http://www.mobygames.com/game/dos/mega-blast My 15" Dell LCD (1024x768) tells me about "unsupported resolution". Tried several cards (S3, Ati, Nvidia) without success. My 20" Samsung LCD (1680x1050) cuts the image down, makes it unplayable. Great game though. It works with that. It …

Re: Remote DOS shell

Just an idea. You can do it in hardware. Buy RS232<->ethernet converter (ie. MOXA5110 ). It comes with software which install virtual serial port (there is also linux device driver - tested personally on Debian 9.0) On DOS side use CTTY, on remote machine run serial terminal with this virtual serial …

Re: Remote DOS shell

Back in time when I was playing with CP/M on my C128 there was a possibility to redirect CON: device to serial port (RS232). Maybe something in this way ? Like CTTY ? (I know this isn't exactly what you mean, but if you can find TCP/IP terminal...)
