I bought a few C64s for the kids before I got my 286 but I never used the C64s that much myself really. Because of that I have more of an affinity to the 286 and x86 machines in general.

How about Windows 3.11 for workgroups? No experience with it myself but I have heard that it is pretty good. It works well. It should piss easy to use the Dos network client on that box though. There's a ton of tutorials on the subject. The OP should be able access the XP shares by just logging in …

Don't come up over here that often. It will be useful on my machines that don't have room for an internal cd reader. Especially my Zenith Z286LP Plus. At $5 plus postage it's hardly breaking the piggy bank.

Set up an IRC client on my OS/2 v3 box, a 486dx2/66 system and gas bagged with the vcf crowd for a bit.

No issues on this box using Thunar in XFCE transferring file via sneakernet to my 286. Mind you it's put together out of a hodge podge of components of varying ages.

Can't have too many spares. Just been going through my 386/486 mobo and card stash today. Glad I had the insight not to throw all my old stuff away. Hell, still have software I bought back in 1990 😉

Played a few older games with my 7yo grandson-Rescue Rover, Rockford and Duke Nukem. Killed another crt in the process 😉 Still have 4 as backups out in the shed.
