Intel PRO/100 is very good choice for win98 PC (if you need LAN). All i430 series motherboards should have built-in drivers for the chipset and most integrated devices, i440 series as well.

There is only one Compaq Voodoo3 3500 - with 16MB SDRAM, S-Video Out (no TV-tuner), running at 184 MHz. At least I'm not familiar with other Compaq V3 3500 types. I think PAL/NTSC doesn't really matter for normal Voodoo3 without TV-tuner.

FSB speed doesn't really matter as long as there is correct AGP divider used. Default AGP clock is 66 MHz. i440BX/ZX supports 1/1 and 2/3 dividers - they are meant for the 66MHz FSB and 100MHz respectively (in both cases AGP will run at 66 MHz). 133MHz FSB on 440BX results in AGP going at 89 MHz and …

Well, socket 7 AGP is always problematic and the whole platform is way to slow to run Voodoo3 at its full potential anyway. No, the Compaq V3 3500 (and V3 1000 too) work just fine in all AGP 2x compatible boards.

3DMark 2001 loves huge and fast L2/L3 cache. Core2-based Pentium isn't a very good CPU for breaking 3DMark records. :) R9800 Pro can do 30k+ and 6800 Ultra PCI-E is able to hit 60k easily... of course with very fast CPU and some LOD tweaks as well. http://hwbot.org/submission/2456100_havli_ …

Gigabyte GA-5AX rev 5.2 powered by the Aladdin V chipset is the number one for me. Very fast, good compatibility and perfect overclocking capabilities
