Regarding Alchemy i had the same problem in SC1 and SC2. The solution for me was to install the drivers from creative website, there are other on the web, bloated ones ,do not rember the name. EAX in SCPT must be activated also in config files. Look for something regarding eax and set it to 1. …

Ialways play with my headphones. Never played with a sound system. Too much noise.😀 Try to see if you have set in XP 5.1 mode. Also try lower quality sound also configurable in XP. Try 16bit, 48000Hz. Try disabling enhancements and reinstall driver with sound system pluged in.
