Sorry, I may have misunderstood. I have DirectX 8.1 installed, but I am not sure the Voodoo driver itself utilizes any of it. From dxdiag, the graphics driver is 3dfx16v3.drv, version 4.12.01.1213. The Mini-VDD is 3dfxv3.vxd.

It may also work on real hardware. I recall playing with it a little bit on my old system. Its capabilities are quite amazing as a general purpose trainer, but there is a learning curve.

Regarding slowdown utilities, Slowdown by Bret Johnson worked well for me. Much better than MoSlo, which was more popular at the time.

Well, when I was a dumb kid, I had a glitch that corrupted the file system (FAT) on one of my drives, which caused a directory inside \TEMP to point back at the root. Instead of fixing it, I decided to delete it, which of course deleted everything on the drive. 😜

There are some basic games where it's impossible to fail/die, such as Dora the Explorer - Journey to the Purple Planet and Dora the Explorer - Dora Saves the Mermaids. The Incredible Machine series is nice too.
