newtmonkey wrote on 2024-01-29, 07:57: (If you hate controllers, disregard 😀 ) I hate controllers. There are very few types of games for which analog controllers offer any meaningful advantage. And there are no games where digital controllers give any advantage over a keyboard / keyboard+mouse …

Re: MSDOS drive letter issue

The problem is that WORMS game (version 1.0) requires CDROM drive to be letter D: and I really wanted this version to run. Are you certain it is a hardcoded requirement and not just a setting which depends on the CD drive letter it was installed from? I tried this copy of Worms CD just now (not …

Yes, that's totally awesome. I recall watching an interview with Paul Romero (can't quite find the video now). I think he was talking about the various inspirations he'd tapped into in creating the music. It's always interesting and joyous for me to see extremely talented people talk about their …

I just finished playing one of the campaigns, so it seems a fitting time to bring up Heroes of Might and Magic Compendium Contents Heroes of Might and Magic (a.k.a. Heroes of Might and Magic: A Strategic Quest) Heroes of Might and Magic II: The Succession Wars + Price of Loyalty expansion King’s …

I finished the second of the two campaigns for Heroes of Might and Magic II: The Succession Wars , having played the first one several years ago. It actually started with me playing some HoMM3 with my sister, but I'm really drawn to the cartoonish graphics and simpler gameplay of the second game. …

Edit: I've never had true trouble with XP "activation". Back in the day, there were very, um, creative ways to handle the issue. I think the most important thing to do was to invest in an authentic copy of XP, though, including the COA, for legal reasons. Activating and, um, borrowing something are …

Mortal Kombat Trilogy It's been a long while since I last sat down and actually played the first two DOS Mortal Kombat games more than to just give them a quick spin, but I don't remember them being this hard. Opponents are very aggressive, it might be me just sucking at it but seems to me you'd …

My "Bestseller" re-release of StarCraft is already pre-patched to version 1.06. With RTS games, patches introduce a lot of balance changes, and that makes perfect sense for multiplayer. However, I'm guessing the single-player campaign was balanced around version 1.00, which is how I experienced …

Just played through the demo of Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown. Not very impressed, but I can see how the game could grow on me. I hope the full game lets the controls be customized - I cannot stand being forced to using a mouse in a 2D platformer. The cartoony graphics are nice. The fact that you …

Funny, I just thought this morning that it was time to bump this topic. 😜 The bundle looks very nice, too bad the game turned out disappointing. 🙁 I'll try to think of something from my collection to post about in the next day or two.

What about downloading them anyways? I don't know if there is anything to download. I believe it is just a setting that is unlocked in the saved game. I actually tested it by re-downloading the full game again last night (I had removed it from my main PC a while ago) - when I launched the game, all …

It's been some time, what was the downloadable content in Brotherhood and The Forgotten Sands anyways? (About forgotten sands, did they patch the Ubisoft drm locked DOORs?) The DLC for Forgotten Sands included a couple of alternate costumes and challenge arenas. Some were only through Uplay, some …

I agree! I've personally always really liked Mellow Cello That's a nice one. Did you notice that 303 includes a variation on the theme? Just like Stalker 2 and Stalker 1. For me, those little intricacies add to the charm. And in general, it has many nice tunes, in different styles. Very refreshing.

Gonna have to revisit this in 5-10 years. I never invested in good quality media. 95% of my CDs/DVDs were white-label, a few were Verbatim, and a very small amount of other brands. My experience was that the early discs from the white-label brands were bad and died soon, but those from just a few …

Doom & Final Doom Like with C&C I expected the worst from the d-pad controls but turns out it wasn't nearly as bad as I feared, I'm actually fine with the controls. Which makes me happy, the PS1 versions of Doom have distinctly different mood to them compared to the PC original thanks to the moody …
