Re: blood 1 mouselook

You probably know this already, but if not, there are two *excellent* modern Windows remakes of the Blood game engine; BuildDGX and NBlood . Using either of these fixes all of the problems and limitations of the original DOS engine. Interested. One thing I would like is to overcome the lousy …

Re: Screensaver help

in Windows
You may need to register the .DLL by opening an elevated command prompt, changing to the \windows\system32 directory and then issuing the command regsvr32.exe /r dllfilename.dll But if it's not a 32-bit .DLL, it probably won't be able to be loaded because of the removal of the 16-bit subsystem. Ok, …

Screensaver help

in Windows
I'm trying to get old screen savers working in Windows 10, but I ran into some problems. When the screensaver just has an *.scr file, it works fine, but I've run across some other screensavers that apparently have both an *.scr file AND a *.dll file. When I try to drop one of those in the System32 …

all seeing eye + eob

Does anyone have experience with The All Seeing Eye automapper for Eye of the Beholder? I am wondering if it has to be played in a windowed environment like is shown in the screenshots, or if I can switch between the map screen and EOB while fullscreen. Even better would be if I could fullscreen …

Re: WINDAS help

in Marvin \ Video
So I completely got this working. There's a whole procedure that does white balance, and that also sets your white point and black point. I didn't realize that was part of the operation. Everything is good now and it my monitor looks great. One thing it took me a really long time to sort out is that …

Re: WINDAS help

in Marvin \ Video
Thanks, I watched that one, but he doesn't use Windas, he uses DAS, which is an older version that works with DOS. Windas is the Windows compatible version and is has a totally different interface. It also doesn't work with a lot of newer Sony monitors, including the one I own.

WINDAS help

in Marvin \ Video
Does anyone here know the Windas software for tuning Sony CRTs? I have an older Sony VGA monitor and it seems like the Drive is set low. I've found a bunch of pages showing how to adjust G1, but what I need is some explanation of other options in the Windas menu, mainly what will set the contrast …

Re: Screen brightness very low in DOSBox?

in DOSBox General
DOSBox has no control over that, it just tells windows what resolution it wants the display to be. The display driver decides what specific timings will be used. Thanks. I followed up on this, and it was indeed my Nvidia drivers creating havoc. In order to get things to work properly, I had to …

Re: Screen brightness very low in DOSBox?

in DOSBox General
Can you try something other than DOSBox at that custom resolution and see if you have the same issue ? The Windows 10 environment runs fine at 640x400. Some elements don't appear, for example, they delete things like the "expand" icon in the photo app, so you have to press F11 to go full screen. …

Re: Screen brightness very low in DOSBox?

in DOSBox General
Ok. I think I know what's going on, but I still don't know exactly why it's going on. It appears to be related to the video timings that DOSBox is sending to the monitor. I created a custom resolution with specific timings in Nvidia control panel for my monitor's 640x400 resolution. I have the …

Screen brightness very low in DOSBox?

in DOSBox General
I'm having this issue where my screen brightness is super dark in DOSBox. I use a VGA monitor with DOSBox, and it's so dark as compared to the Windows desktop that I can't even make up for it with the brightness knob on my monitor. I actually have to open up the case and tweak the SCREEN voltage up …
