Re: indirect sound

in Windows
Interesting discussion. I have a question not directly related to IndirectSound but I think still on-topic. Should there be an inherent reason why (at least with a specific game and on XP), more than stereo wouldn't work when audio "hardware acceleration" is disabled in Windows?

Tomb Raider 6: AoD stutters with NV surround audio

in Windows
I'm trying to run Tomb Raider: Angel of Darkness with surround sound. The setup is: WinXP, GeForce GTX 750 (latest drivers that don't ruin graphics stuff), HDMI audio, game v52. This leads to two problems: * The game stutters. There are framerate hiccups when SFX is triggered. * Speech is too quick, …

Nvidia global 3D settings override works, per-game doesn't

in Windows
I've a game where 3D settings can be overridden from Nvidia control panel's "Global Settings" tab, but not using the "Program Settings" tab (per-game/EXE override). Other games do work properly. Another oddity is how the specific game shows in the Nvidia "Program Settings" game selection dropdown. …

Re: Football Pro 98 utility

in Windows
It's no trouble, I'm just trying to understand the situation. :) If you could upload all the things somewhere I could have a direct look. BTW, if you're not familiar with Virtual Machines (like VirtualBox or Virtual PC, and others), it's a way to run another operating system under your "main" …

Re: Football Pro 98 utility

in Windows
Do you have it currently working on Win98, or does even that not work? Did you try running it on XP with Win98 compatibility mode to see if the "Software code" changes to match your Win98? If it does, I assume your existing key will work. Might be worth a try also on Win98 under VirtualBox (or maybe …

Re: Football Pro 98 utility

in Windows
Did you try Win98 compatibility mode? Else, you might try running it in a VM, like VirtualBox. Can you explain some what are "support files", "key creator without password", and "key save/restore program" (isn't the key just some text you paste in the actual software)?

Re: Games with CD Audio?

in Windows
If you include music that's not so much for standalone listening, but is nice for its atmosphere during the game, there are other things I recall. For example, Dune 2, Diablo...

Re: Games with CD Audio?

in Windows
If it's about music, one shouldn't care about the format, may it be CD/A or file-based. 😀 For example, Need for Speed 2 had nice guitar-oriented music, but not as CD tracks.

Re: Games with CD Audio?

in Windows
Don't know such a list, but here are a few: Age of Empires engine games (AoE1, 2 and expansions, probably Star Wars: Galactic Battlegrounds) Tomb Raider, at least some of them. Motorhead I think Half-Life 1, and maybe the expansions. I think MotoRacer 2 I'm curious, what's the use of such a list? …

Re: Age of Empires CD/A music without Daemon Tools?

in Windows
Thanks. I'll try that next. Right now I'm first trying UPatch HD for AoE1 (with expansion), which supposedly can play MP3 music somehow. While AoE2 music worked with Daemon Tools, so far it doesn't in AoE1/AoE1 exp. And... UPatchHD is unideal. As far as I can tell is just plays MP3s in sequential …

Re: Age of Empires CD/A music without Daemon Tools?

in Windows
Trying AoE2, I actually couldn't get ogg-winmm to work (ZellSF's compile from here, both DLL variants: http://www.vogons.org/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=43614&start=20#p529936), nor plain MIDI. I prefer the Ogg option, though even if I wanted to try MIDI I don't see any such files around, unlike in AoE1. Is …

Re: How to compare modern CPUs?

in Milliways
JavaScript isn't Java. It's what practically all web pages use for their dynamic and logic parts. I don't know about new Opera, but in classic Opera (version 12) you can disable/enable JavaScript on the fly, without reloading the page, which is very useful. Maybe Vivaldi has a similar option , but …

Re: Age of Empires CD/A music without Daemon Tools?

in Windows
ogg-winmm looks promising, and in a way a simpler solution than mounting CD images if it works reliably. And interesting to find out that there are new software MIDI synths. I might try VirtualMIDISynth too, but I rather liked the original CD/A, which would be considered the canonical music. :) …
