whats in altre periferiche? it seems you have not all drivers still; after installing 4in1 i'd try reinstalling the graphics card and see then if you get direct3d in hardware

that may be true, but i do not believe he can get accelerated 3d without a chipset driver; you need any chipset driver imho - but i may be wrong;

after installing the via 4in1 you should reinstall the gfx driver to see any difference; you may also have to manually enable hardware aceleration; imho xp is too much of a hog for this but the oldest drivers onthe asus site are for win2k only;

Avoid "Palomino" type Athlon XP why? i had an ath xp 2600 and besides the lacking of ram i was very happy; board was gigabyte nforce 2 based, gfx was gf3 ti 500 or so; Skip XP and go with Athlon 64 is my tip :blush: was it any better besides doing 64bit oses? for one cache was bigger, anything else …

exchange every element with a spare in turns, so you could pinpoint the source? and go back to 1 memory module for starters? any o/c needs to be disabled beforehand

imho xeon will win for most tasks, especially for modern or multimiedia apps, athlon may however get the upperhand with very small code;
