IIRC the only weakness of the C64 vs the Spectrum was its slower CPU. This was mostly an issue with calculation-intensive 3D vector games.

No these things aren't standardized, and different cases use different height stand-offs. Why wouldn't this be defined in the ATX standard?

Are there any downsides to running Windows 2000 Server instead of Professional? Gaming/multimedia issues? Remote Desktop is useful to have and isn't available in Professional.

Windows NT 4.0 works well with OpenGL games: the Quakes, RTCW, Alice and Half-Life all run well on it.

The newest ATX case I have is from 2006. The only problem with old cases is that their front panel audio connectors usually don't support HD audio. ETA: front panel USB is also limited to 2.0 of course, though that hasn't bothered me as I don't have any computers with integrated USB 3.

No, IIRC I tried plugging in a regular ATX PSU, even two at the same time, and it wouldn't power on.
