Re: Creative Wave Blaster...yuck?

in PC Emulation
Silent Loon: I've also heard about a third version of creative's waveblaster - the so called "Waveblaster 32 Pro" which should have an ensoniq chipset. Does anyone know this one? I don't. Seems quite rare since I got only 1 google result, it says it is similar to Ensoniq Soundscape DB. (the guy in …

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/XG_(midi) (sorry it seems to be an illegal url syntax to post as url) ...Available only in Japan also is a DB60XG, effectively a DB50XG with an analog input. Seems these and the SW60XG too all have the same sound. And they sound very good for that matter indeed. Kreshna …

Re: lean/mean DOs cd-rom driver needed

in PC Emulation
Amigaz: Does it work with old IDE controllers like xdrom doesn't seem to do? Sorry, I have no cd-rom drives from around 1995 installed or on the shelf. You have to try it yourself. QCDROM does have certain command line switches that might make a difference.

Re: lean/mean DOs cd-rom driver needed

in PC Emulation
I switched to QCDROM.SYS, it has quite a lot of features, developed in 2006, used to be part of freedos. You can find it here: http://www.hiren.info/downloads/dos-files "QCDROM takes 2528 bytes of memory with its local-stack or 2016 bytes without a stack."

Re: Anyone heard of this hardware?

in PC Emulation
I'm currently playing around with genuine opl2/3 sound. Yesterday I was coincidentally googling for these yamaha opl3-sax based isa cards, but I could not find any articles reviewing the series. Many people with driver problems on the discussiongroups though. Since there seemed not even a tiny fan …

Re: crystal cx4235 isa

in PC Emulation
Thanks for pointing that out. Such undocumented compatibility might come in handy (Getting 16-bit digital sound over sbpro-8-bit when WSS is not an option?). I have a cs4232 card myself but I haven't got it installed currently.

Re: crystal cx4235 isa

in PC Emulation
A month late but here is some info. The main point is that I see no evidence for this chipset to be compatible with the gravis ultrasound. http://benlawrence.com/nt150/faq/faq_2.html Not mentioned on the site anymore, though by a search on Google, they appeared to at one time have a page describing …

Re: ECW Wavetable format available!? (SBPCI/Live)

in PC Emulation
That is an interesting article indeed. Thanks for the link! Must add that quite soon after my initial post I started to get me some recommended midi hardware, and with that became aware that things like the audio PCI would never be satisfying ever again... At that time I also encountered my first …

Re: svga or vesa text mode

in PC Emulation
Pretty sure Geforce cards have good support for all the vesa modes, and they run the normal real DOS text mode fine. Anyways below are the videomodes that used to be available in the DOS era (my self-made list of some years ago). I would be suprised if they invented new 'text-modes' after that. -= …

Re: Midi: Dream and Topwave-32 samplesets

in PC Emulation
These waveblaster cards just have one midi in port, and a stereo analog out. No way I can digitally read out the information in the ROMs on these cards. There are ways I suppose, but that requires hardware ROM readers or something, and a lot of knowhow. Anyways, I was able to judge the sample sets …

Re: Midi: Dream and Topwave-32 samplesets

in PC Emulation
I changed the contents of the above mentioned file, it now contains recordings of the game Descent. Four different cards are in the comparison: - Roland SC-55 (from dos.skillreactor.org ) - Dream 1 - SAM9233; Terratec Maestro 32/96 - Dream 2 - SAM9407; Guillemot Maxi Sound 64 Home Studio (from dos. …

Midi: Dream and Topwave-32 samplesets

in PC Emulation
1) I have these two sound boards with a 'Dream' synth and accompanying 4mb GS sampleset: A Terratec Maestro 32/96 soundcard and a more recent Turtle Beach Cancun-FX daughterboard. To my suprise they sound quite different from eachother! Anyone knows the history behind this? how many different …

Re: Midi daughterboard trouble

in PC Emulation
cdoublejj: holey cow Shocked that sure is some scientific. I try to keep it as simple as possible, but if it doesn't work right I am forced to do it the technical way... ;). Anyways, all is solved now. Below is a scan of the simple stereo reverser I made. To be put between the Daughterboard and the …

Re: To save the daughterboards!

in PC Emulation
I checked again, but the article I linked to is without an amplifier like yours, the waveblaster output goes straight to the connectors. It has a DIN input besides another socket marked 'mac' as in macintosh?. hmm...

Re: To save the daughterboards!

in PC Emulation
Nice work! All the more rewarding if you build and solder such items yourself. Recently I soldered a small cpu-fan speed-control unit and a stereo-reverser for my midi daughterboard connector. Currently I am quite content with just keeping the daughterboards on host cards. Inside the PC there is …

Re: 2nd hand DB50XG Midi daughterboard trouble

in PC Emulation
OKAY, a Turtle Beach Santa Cruz is now installed next to my Maestro 32/96 ISA and I have done some testing on the above issues: 1) Clipping - is gone when using the DB50XG on the TB-SC, and since I had already managed to fix this with sysex on the other soundcard: this problem is solved for me. 2) …
