Re: Bought these games today

http://i.imgur.com/BNhvnTe.jpg http://i.imgur.com/JBmDlTC.jpg I spent many hours playing Links LS 99 back in the day. I was even world-ranked on LS Online for a period of time. Played many rounds with the recognized #1 player and even beat him a couple of times. ;) We were pretty much all the same …

Re: System Shock Remastered gameplay trailer

That looks amazing. Definitely looks and feels like Citadel Station. As MusciallyInspired says, though, I sure do hope they have at least some semblance of the original soundtrack. Back in the DOS days, music would often make the game. In my mind, the music helped make System Shock what it was.

Re: Post your 'current' PC

My current PC is not so current. Up until a week ago, I had a 6 yr old Acer laptop running linux as my *only* PC. My son, though, has a pimped out i5 gaming rig. LOL. So this weekend I hooked up my XP GOG.com gaming machine. Now I use it for Vogons, GOG.com and YouTube, offloading those activities …

Re: How to reliably (and cheaply) store data?

Also refreshing old data from time to time with something like Diskfresh ain't a bad idea. When the 840 EVO debacle came to light here your servant and other users succesfully used Diskfresh to restore old file read speeds back to spec (though this procedure eats away from the SSD's TBW). It sounds …

I totally agree about Unreal's atmosphere. :) The first time I heard the weird Nali sounds I was creeped out and intrigued all at once. Are you using the unofficial patch and hi res textures? Highly recommended. Patch: http://www.oldunreal.com/oldunrealpatches.html Textures: http://www.oldunreal.com …

I'm definitely on a Wing Commander kick lately. Started WC1 in late December, beating it on Feb 15th. Started WC2 right after that and beat it on March 12th. Started WC3 right after that and I'm currently on Locanda 2 (9th mission in). I've been slowly going through System Shock and Indiana Jones …

Re: Suggestions for lightweight and free antivirus?

in Milliways
I am already well-protected even without antivirus. I have blocked malicious sites and ad sites using hosts file (as well as updating it regularly) Oh, by the way, I'm using Windows XP SP2 32-bit. Many thanks. Have you looked at the browser add-on uBlock Origin? It has the ability to use multiple …

Re: Suggestions for lightweight and free antivirus?

Regarding ClamAV, they were recently tested by av-test.org and did about as poorly as I've ever seen an A/V do. IMO, ClamAV should be limited to a background scanner for linux servers. It doesn't have what it takes (especially on Windows PCs) for a desktop scanner. Another good site to check …

Re: Suggestions for lightweight and free antivirus?

I've never had any issues activating BitDefender free. It is my go-to recommendation for personal use. But if you're having issues with that, MSE is my 2nd choice. Their detection rates have gone up considerably (see av-test.org) in recent times, which was always their Achilles Heel.

Re: POD 200Mhz

The motherboard I'm considering this for has official support for Overdrive processors up to 200Mhz, so I don't anticipate compatibility issues there. I've also read reports of people using a 233MMX and K6-2 with a Powerleap adapter. Here's more info on the motherboard: http://www.uktsupport.co.uk/ …

Re: POD 200Mhz

If you want to save money get a regular P233 MMX, they handle 3.3V just fine as long as you use a heatsink that can handle a K6. You get 33 extra MHz and I even think the motherboard is better off without the hot running little overdrive with its tiny heatsink. Im pretty sure the extra power the …
