Re: What game are you playing now?

The shaky cam is pretty jarring for me that's why I never managed to get into it.. It's on my backlog though. Assuming you are responding to my post, Tomb Raider 2013 had been on my backlog for almost 3 years before I decided to try it. And now that I looked it up, it was a temporary giveaway when …

Tomb Raider (2013) Slowly working my way through Shanty Town now. This is a huge section with tons to explore with only a few combat sections. These are my favorite parts of this game. And oh, it looks so good especially for a 2013 game. Shanty Town 1.jpg Uh... I hate that game with passion. What …

Re: Ultima 6 no midi?

Regarding Ultima 6 with newer GM devices, I have created a custom MIDI.DAT optimized for Sound Canvas devices. Using it should sound better on GM devices than the default MT-32 optimized one that comes with the game. Grab it here (remember to backup the original). Some background/setup info here . …

I know this is not technically gaming, but I've gotten on a gpu tuning kick. I happen to be using Tomb Raider (2013) as part of my test suite. :) So far I've gotten my RTX 2060 KO to run at 1905Mhz stable with only 0.85v. This basically turns the card from a 160W TDP to a 110W TDP without losing …

Now that I finished part 1 of Bard's Tale Remastered, I'm back on Tomb Raider (2013) to try to complete it. It's a great story and entertaining, but I'm really not a fan of the platforming aspects. The story and exploration are what's keeping me going. I'm near the end of the Chasm Monastery section …

I've been playing Halo: Reach from Halo: Master Chief Collection on PC. On Legendary difficulty, the mission Long Night of Solace is kicking my ASS. I've played the same space combat bit for 2 hours straight and died about 200 times, and still have not managed to get past the second Covenant wave ( …

I think there's room for both types of players for RPGs. I tend to play like Ensign Nemo, but I don't think RandomStranger is wrong for playing the way he does. I have very little time and a huge backlog. I want to enjoy the story, create my own party, and just have fun with as little frustration as …

The Bard's Tale Trilogy Remastered I'm nearing the end of Part 1. According to the in-game timer I've played 52 hours and 35 minutes. I could probably have marched to the end game 10+ hours ago, but I'm really enjoying leveling the characters up and finding new items to identify and possibly …

Stray (Use Steamless to play without Steam) Just got it setup to play without Steam so haven't gotten into it yet. My 18 yr old son's been playing this and he loves it. I've watched over his shoulder for a bit and it does look like something I'd enjoy. Just have to whittle my backlog down some more …

Re: 16Bit Color Dos Games

I've been hunting for a DOS game (also had a Windows launcher) that I bought new in 1997 that supported high color. I remember specifically buying it because it advertised 65,000 color support on the back of the box. Unfortunately, I found the RTS gameplay pretty lackluster. Anyway, after a ton of …

Re: Bought this (Modern) hardware today

I guess this would still be considered modern. I just picked up an i7-4790k to max out my main system. It was a completely unnecessary buy (I already had an i7-4770), but the price was right and I wanted to max my system out with the fastest supported processor. A ran through a suite of cpu …

If you listen to the Security Now podcast regularly, you'll get these answers. I'm not in a spot now where I can type long, but I can say that SR is in alpha and available to registered users who know how to get it. So finally, it is close to release. I agree it's been way too long, but he had his …

I would second SpinRite. It can be very useful for last ditch recovery, short of sending it to Drive Savers or somewhere similar. However, if your drive is larger than say 250GB or so you will likely have issues getting it to work properly. As far as I know Gibson still hasn't released a 6.1 update …

I'm a little over 2 hours into Wolfenstein. This game has a mixed reputation. So far it doesn't seem to be bad. Which one? The 2009 version? That is the only FPS in this franchise I haven't played due to it not being available digitally. Keep us posted on how it compares to the rest of the FPS in …

Puran Diskfresh https://www.puransoftware.com/DiskFresh.html Free and faster because it runs from windows. Spinrite has a bug that limits the hdd size to less than 640gb, in theory is a Bios bug but I've never found a solution for that, that's a big problem for nowadays hard disks. Hdat 2 is free …
