Yes, bridge chip will get burning hot while card is working. It's that way on all pcie to agp cards (ATI/NV) I own.

I would at least consider HD 5770/6770 1GB, as the overkill card (vs. GTX 460/470). Be aware that 775 boards support sata but its often sata 1.0 and newer sata drives dont have a jumper to set sata 1 mode so the boards wont detect the drive I used ASRock 775Dual-VSTA, and it didn't have any problems detecting SATA2 HDD's. Also, my 865P PGA 478 MB works fine with 500GB Samsung F3 …

ASRock 4CoreDual series supports Quad Cores with DDR2 and they all have Win 98 support. Win 98 SE is using only one core of that Quad Core, so DDR400 isn't that big of a deal for it.
