Re: Dosbox help

If all you wanted to do was play Wolfenstein again and you don't give a soggy towel about anything else, then this isn't the forum for you. Command-line prompts are FAR from out of date. That's a foolish error if you think that. Just try to develop software or use Linux without using the command …

Re: I found my old blog :P

@Jo22: Yeah, SRB2! My sister and I still play this over the internet from time to time. She always beats me :-P But we used to make levels together in the SRB2 Doom Builder. @Dominus: Apparently, no. All the links I had put up there are to shareware/freeware stuff. But anyway, this has got me …

I found my old blog :P

I was sitting here, and suddenly I remembered that when I was 11 years old I had cajoled my dad into letting me start a blog on Wordpress. Magically, I managed to remember the URL: https://ultimatedos.wordpress.com There's almost nothing there; it seems I made one post and then forgot about it  …

Re: Musings on audio encoding and FM transmission

It's definitely CBR. I can watch the bitrate on the streaming server; it drops to 95 or 94 every once in a while, but only for about a second. I don't know why it does that, but it's not ABR. I agree with Scali. Collision and physics routines are critical as far as speed is concerned. I think they should be coded from scratch and optimized for non-FPU systems - and we can still have pretty realistic physics anyway, just take advantage of natural laws and equations that we know and mimic …

Re: I've an idea: Let's get some game development going

This is what we're up against. https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1093001909/rad-rodgers-the-return-of-the-90s-era-apogee-platf [rant] This sort of thing annoys me greatly. Everything about this game - the kid's "too cool for school" name, the insipid smirk pasted on his face, the foul-mouthed and …

Musings on audio encoding and FM transmission

I was listening to the stream of a radio station here: http://myradiostream.com/station/flashplayer.php?s=s11&p=12398 This station belongs to my dad; I did all of the setup of the audio equipment, and managed to get the highest audio quality possible given our extremely low budget. The transmitter …

Re: I've an idea: Let's get some game development going

But historically not many games targeted OPL3. OPL2 sounds good enough, and is supported on a wider range of hardware, so I don't see why not. For starters I'd go for OPL2 music. Simply because it is anyway required. Also dual OPL2 and OPL3 cards are fully compatible with OPL2. Well, I guess we …
