Re: Atari St Games and Roland CM500

in Marvin \ Sound
I am an Atari user, but this isn't really Atari specific, it'd be the same answer for any other MIDI game on any MIDI computer. If a game is programmed to output MT32 specific (like the Sierra games on the ST) They will only sound correct on either a real MT32 or something that can emulate MT32 (for …

Looked at the method that does this, doesnt say anything about dithering/undithering, but it does combine buffers and corrects gamma from values in dac. Dont know what exacly the filter on dacs side does, sure someone can add some more info. But I dont see much difference on screen or those …

Re: Intel D815EEA2

Hey guys - maybe a silly question? Not sure what I am doing wrong but I picked up a working Intel D815EEA2 motherboard, came with a regular P3. Flashed it with P15 as per the instructions in the thread, but the machine doesn't post with a 1.4ghz tualatin-s installed. The P3 still works fine. I …

Re: Why do people keep saying Quake engine games are glide?

in Milliways
I was reading that 'List of Glide games' in 'Deep thought' and noticed that Quake engine games are listed there as Glide. Correct me if I'm wrong but these engines are OpenGL. Just because the 3dfx MiniGL basically wraps a subset of OpenGL into Glide doesn't make the game Glide native. Also on that …

Re: Deus Ex - crash on save?

in Windows
I am now convinced this is a motherboard issue... even though I've re-capped it. I did some googling and found mention of the 'TUSL2-C siren crash' which describes this issue well. I have also found that this has started to happen in other games too, not just Deus Ex. I've ordered a cheap …

Re: Deus Ex - crash on save?

in Windows
Quick update, it crashed on save again. I'm starting to think it is related to frame rate. If I try to save while looking at liberty island it'll crash, if I save while looking out to sea it doesn't.

Re: Deus Ex - crash on save?

in Windows
Just wanted to do a quick update on some of this: New things I tried: * New harddrive * New PSU * New sound card (specifically chose a VIA Envy24 based chip with no hardware acceleration) * Removed Win2K and installed WinXP SP3 so I can try newer Deus Ex mods * Re-installed Deus Ex from the GOTY CD …

Deus Ex - crash on save?

in Windows
Hi all, Not sure why but completely randomly Deus Ex (original GOTY) has started crashing on save, whether I press quick save or try to go into the save menu the entire machine freezes with a sound screech. I know what you're thinking, sound drivers etc! But no, here is what I have tried: * Removed …

Deus EX - improved mods but on retro hardware!

in Windows
Hi all, I am a 3Dfx fan, my retro computer runs a v5 5500 & Win2K. I am also a massive fan of Deus EX! There are some great versions of Deus Ex like: GMDX & Revision. They basically enhance Deus Ex within the confines of the original engine. I really wanted to get either of these mods working under …

Re: Upgrading a Mach32 ISA card to 2MB

in Marvin \ Video
I just thought of something, those OKI chips might work if you tie the UCAS & LCAS pins together on the SoJ. Maybe. What I'm thinking is, if the card only has one of the two CAS lines that the OKI chips need, maybe it's only getting 8 bits out of 16 bits. The two that you've linked are FPM, so …

Re: Upgrading a Mach32 ISA card to 2MB

Thx @Thermalwrong oddly though reading the datasheet it says that the 'S' variation designates fast page ability and that particular version doesn't seem to hit up any results on eBay, but the non-S varient does. I'm assuming I'd need the S varient. By the way I'll check those cas lines as suggested …

Cheers guys! In regards to the ram mentioned above, being in the UK, the closest I can buy for a reasonable price would be either of these: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2-Pcs-DRAM-Memory-NEC-uPD424260LE-60-60nS-40pin-SOJ-Cut-Tape-/124354068547?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&_trksid=p2349624.m46890.l49286&mkrid=710- …

Upgrading a Mach32 ISA card to 2MB

in Marvin \ Video
Hiyas... I have a Mach32 board that has two sockets for upgrading to 2mb vram. The chips on the board are: HM514170AJ8 I had some Oki M514265BSL chips which I thought were the same kind, but they don't seem to work/allow higher resolutions. I then found an image of someone elses card which had all …
