The checksum-part wasn't that hard to find. Just had to watch the outputs to the debug-port and look for the code for crc check / error. Thanks. CPU gets detected with 75MHz, but setup runs quite fast. After the initial copy of W2K and the first reboot, it crashes with a bluescreen and random drivernames. I'll try the board with a regular PPro, if it isn't working then, maybe there's something else wrong.

I'd prefer to pull the other 5 data pins high or low permanently. Not parallel to the other chip, this only increases capacitance and maybe hurts due to different propagation delays between both rams.

You have to check the datasheet of the used vga controller, when there is support for tft, it most likely can be done. Sometimes you have to patch the bios.

The cap left to the blue one is already bulging. Whether there is a missing cap can be checked from below, traces of previous soldering jobs. I'd recap the whole board and maybe change the socket - or get a screw-on-cooler.
