There are 8088 systems with SRAM already, the IBM 5140 Convertible used it. That said, I would love to see what a V20/V30 system would look like when pushed to the limit with SRAM and frequency increase.

Sometimes 10mbit cards have trouble negotiating down from a gigabit connection, if you have a 100mbit switch laying around you could put that in the middle. gigabit router -> 100mbit switch -> 10mbit card

As long as it boots, the manual for your motherboard (MS-6760) indicates you'll be able to change the multiplier to where it should be. It's not gonna kill your desktop board, the laptop VRMs probably died as a result of higher CPU heat output and power draw. The mobile chip in a desktop board would be the opposite, if anything it should be kinder to the VRMs.
