Re: "Outrigger" OR840 build

"compatible serial number" is key here too I think - I did not expect my OR840 to support 512MB RIMMs at all. Fair points, though, and worth a try. I will swap sets and run memtest86 again after I'm confident in the first round of testing. Edit: the system so far seems stable with 1GB installed. …

Re: "Outrigger" OR840 build

Got the BIOS updated without incident. Interestingly: I figured, well, the board boots with 128MB sticks - what about all the other RIMMs I now have on hand  2x 256MB Samsung PC800-40 non-ECC, 2x CRIMM - boot 2x 512MB Samsung PC800-40 ECC, 2x CRIMM - boot!! can we go 4x 512MB Samsung PC800-40 …

Re: "Outrigger" OR840 build

Thanks again for the software/BIOS/docs repo! The struggle with Rambus is very real.. however my OR840 finally sprang to life with four Elpida PC800-45 128MB sticks installed. It is currently on BIOS 0219.P03. Going to try to get that updated and then see if I can lay down my Windows 2000 RIS image …

Re: "Outrigger" OR840 build

Shoot - looks like I have an earlier board that will not support 512MB RIMMs. I wonder what the change was? Kind of puts a hole in my plans, but I suppose Lubuntu should still work with 1GB RAM. Windows 2000 will have no issue of course. Anyway, thanks for posting all of these materials! Very …

Re: "Outrigger" OR840 build

Sadly the board still does not boot with two Samsung 256MB PC800-40 RIMMs and two CRIMMs. Arranged per the product guide, I still get the 1-2-6 beep code. On the upside, the beep code does change as expected if I put both RIMMs on one channel, for example. I also get a beep code with the Quadro2 …

Re: "Outrigger" OR840 build

doogie , my bet is your machine is using an old BIOS which will not recognize the 512MB RIMMs. You should "invest" in 4x128MB RIMMs anyways since you will need them when flashing the newer BIOS. Barring some ACPI issues (specially if I switch my expansion cards too much while testing) the machine …

Re: "Outrigger" OR840 build

Aha! A PCI video card did the trick to confirm my suspicions, allowing the board to produce this beep code: 1-2-6 Memory not supported (unsupported memory technology) Also, I might have missed it, but after a bit of searching I finally found the product guide/manual - I didn't see it posted in the …

Re: "Outrigger" OR840 build

A new challenger approaches.. I'm attempting another take on the Maximum PC Dream Machine 2000 build, and just picked up my own OR840 (Intel retail, in box even!) which honestly looks to have never been used. I have yet to get it to POST, and the BIOS version is unknown - here's the current …
