So in terms of 2021 is it nowadays still the best way to stick with: VIDECDD.SYS + MSCDEX Or are there better alternatives recommended like DVD2.SYS + SHCDX33F Or DVD2.SYS + SHSUCDX(3.07)

That's interesting to know, I never perceived these different "attack modes" neither back in the days nor today 😉 IMHO, consistent attack damage would be useful.

The Sidewinder 3D has a tiny switch at the front that is marked with one and two dots at the bottom. It switches the joystick from analogue to digital mode. Did you try playing around with that option as well?

Just a quick success message: Unisound works great with a "Terratec Gold 16/96 (ESS1868F based)" and also enables the wavetable volume. (The ESSVOL.EXE tool that originally ships with the card won't enable the wavetable by default, i.e. volume is zero unless set manually)

@Cyberdyne: not sure if you got the scope of "mTCP" right. As it's meant for retro systems, I guess it's not the option for communicating with modern links or servers (outside your retro LAN)

Short question: Will the BIOS update just fix the Y2000 issue so it won't switch from 31.12.1999 t0 01.01.1900? Is the effort really worth it, as it won't happen again? Or does the updated BIOS also support larger drives which would indeed justify the effort?

I've recenty done some tests with a 3C509B (ISA) versus a RLT8019AS (ISA) comparing the troughput on a 486. The 3C outperformed the Realtek easily. Tested it with mTCP's FTPSERV tool.

You can even use one of these Sidewinders that came with that USB-> Gameport Adapters. This would enable you to use it with USB on Win10 and with the Gameport on DOS machines... The only feature that is not supported any more is "Force Feedback" as far as I'm aware about.

Considering Ryzen 4 later this year and was researching the VME issue with 9x in a VM. For some reason I completely missed that it affected NT up to XP and 2003 but it makes sense. Is this still broken as of 9-19-2020? Anyone have the time to test 9x and XP in the latest Vmware Player VM? …
