I suspect that his point is that if the part is current as of that time, the date code of that specific card is not as important. A card released in 1999 but manufactured in 2001 is still era appropriate for 1999 since the performance will likely be effectively identical to that which was available …

Monkey Island 1 will natively only support sound effects if played with the Sound Blaster setting (Maybe adlib, I'm not sure). There is a patch on VOGONS that does allow you to hear sound effects through the Sound Blaster when the Roland option is selected. I'm not sure which versions it supports. …

He'll probably pop by eventually. I found the same thread, and I was able to find a couple of people who got a 486 and a G200 working. Have you tried clearing the BIOS? Have you tried all different PCI slots? What bus speed are you running?

It is possible that the card is DOA. There may be a BIOS option for allocating resources to the PCI bus. It may also be incompatible with your chipset, but that would require more research. Have you tested the card in another system?

IMHO, the AWE64 General MIDI wavetable sounds terrible. Its horrible sound is what made me get into MIDI Synths to begin with. I think that the SC-55mkII, my first MIDI Synth utterly destroys it. The first level of Duke Nukem 3D sealed it for me. AWE 64 SC-55

A common approach is to purchase an audio mixer to take multiple outputs. This has the benefit of being able to control to volume levels independently to better balance the sound and music.

The bottom left number "059234" is the revision information. In this case, it is Revision "05", which was designed in year 19"92", Week "34" I did have issues with my CT1600, same revision, in a K6-3+ 450. I had to slow it down to about 200MHz for it to run properly in all cases.
