Re: Magic Carpet Plus on Windows 2000

in DOS
I have access to 2 PCs. Family PC: AMD Athlon XP 1800+ 512 MB DDR-266 RAM ATI Radeon 9600 XT SoundMAX Digital Audio Windows XP Home The games run OK under DOSBox, but it's still a little slow in hi-res mode. I remember being able to run MC+ without DOSBox & sound, but it was WAY TOO FAST even in hi- …

Re: Strange texture glitch with GliDOS

No more texture glitch-but now I get some strange lines dividing the screen into 6 segments. I also seem to get glitches in popup menus & the like. By "alternate .EXE files", I tried D2X as well as an abandonware copy. Both worked, although the abandonware copy's Setup files wouldn't work & there …

Strange texture glitch with GliDOS

The textures & menus of Carmageddon & Descent II are both a little screwy-it's sorta like a rainbow, but only with alternating cyan & near-normal-colored-but-darker vertical stripes. It doesn't affect Carma textures-just the HUD-but it's EVERYWHERE on Descent II! Any way I can fix this? Of course, …

Redline on Windows XP Home (SOLVED!)

I've had this game lingering around for a while, and it ran great on my legacy PC with an Xpert 98 PCI installed(I'd guess constant 60 FPS or so, but never choppy)-hopefully with the 3Dfx logo on the back of the case, my new Voodoo 2 shouldn't let me down. It should run even better on the family PC, …

Re: Recommendations for my legacy PC

Many times with Windows 98, when it asks you for the path where your ethernet drivers are, you can simply enter C:\windows\system and it will just regrab the files it already has. My old SB Live! would have issues like that as well. Occassonaly it would dissapear from the device manager. I moved it …

Re: Recommendations for my legacy PC

Okay, I have a HUGE problem now that the V2 is installed in Win98. Well, two actually. First, to re-install the Ethernet card drivers, I have to have the Win98 SE CD. Well, guess what? I don't have it. My dad problably kept it. Second, there's the fact that the SB Live! Value stopped functioning …

Re: Recommendations for my legacy PC

Okay, so my Voodoo 2 just arrived. OEM, but the card itself looks brand-new-the bag hadn't even been opened! Then, I realize that only 1 of the 3 PCI slots won't be blocked by the K6-2 HSF, so I move my Ethernet card that's residing in that slot. I boot...only to realize that my HDD power cord is …

Re: Recommendations for my legacy PC

Daughtercards for sound cards just give you wavetable midi. Some have effects processors for Chorus, Reverb, Spatial effects to add to the midi. Some of them really suck (Creative Waveblaster) and some are awesome (Roland SCD's). Hard to find. Wavetable MIDI? How is that good? Is it like going from …

Re: Recommendations for my legacy PC

Well a AWE64/AWE32/SB32 really IS just a SB16 with some EMU wavetable chips added on. They all use the same Windows drivers, with some additions for the wavetable-equipped cards. Sound Blaster was the gold standard thru most of the '90s; almost every game supports them. REAL old games, like late ' …

Re: Getting Mechwarrior 2: Mercenaries(3dfx Edition)to run

in DOS
I can't even install Any of the Titanium edition MW's! I've tried the compatibility thing and it never worked. I got it to install on an older rig running XP, but the game won't play, it jst crashes. Can somebody help me out? The Titanium Trilogy runs on the Mercs 1.1 engine, which is STRICTLY …
