Try Puppy Linux. I use mainly Slacko Puppy 7 (Slackware 14.2 based) or BionicPup32 (Ubuntu Bionic based), they both boot up on Pentium2 class systems, so non-SSE/SSE2 CPUs. They are light and can be burnt to a CD.

Once I had that problem. Turned out to be my ram. Why would that cause all agp cards to stop working? I assume it's because agp apatures use ram as extra agp vram. But I could be wrong. Will try a few different sticks of RAM and report back. No luck—tried all the RAM I had, in different configs. …

They are useful for occasional file transfers though, and Disabling it in the Device Manager restores the performance. I'd rather Enable/Disable the device than transfer files over USB1 speeds 🤷
