What version of the Live card are you using? Some OEM cards aren't fully hardware based. If that card is relying on CPU cycles to do the heavy lifting it could really be killing your performance. I use some of the wallpapers and screen savers, notably the 'Inside your computer' (vacuum tubes, 🤣) and the Mystery one. I don't really and didn't ever really use the sounds, cursors, fonts etc.

Last Am3 system I had (Phenom II x6) I used as a Truenas system. Eventually I did replace it with a standalone Netgear NAS. But it worked well enough for about two years. Just a thought, although it would likely require more drives for some type of redundancy.
